Hello,

A month after my wife arrived in the US, she got a letter saying  that USCIS has received her immigrant visa packet. However, they cannot process her packet or produce her permanent resident card until she pays the USCIS Immigrant fee. The total cost is $220. I've never heard/read about this. I thought we already paid all the fees before she was approved for the visa. Did anyone also had to pay the $220 to get the green card?

Yes, everybody does. The immigrant visa is different from the green card. No fee, no GC I’m afraid!

Yes, the $220 immigrant fee is part of it and you need to pay it in order to get the green card. The instructions came when I received my passport back with the visa in it, that letter explained what it was for and how to pay it.

Yes, this fee is required as stated at https://www.uscis.gov/forms/filing-fees/uscis-immigrant-fee. When my wife received her immigrant visa from the Tokyo embassy, they included a notice regarding this fee and details on paying it.

It seems like I need to login to my USCIS account. Silly question, but do I need to login with the account I made when I applied for Form I-130 on the USCIS website? Or do I need to create a new account?

Thank you.

Thank you.

Use the same account/login that you used for the I-130 petition. That will help ensure you receive email/text notifications from USCIS if you had these set up in your I-130 account.
