Many, and I mean many chess players who are International Masters or Grandmasters have received GCs via EB1 and still do. I have specific knowledge on this. If the OP is one of them then OP had a decent chance. While we do not know what transpired I would assume that the OP fell under at least one of the above titles to file for EB1 in which case to me that would make total sense.

He was on a Student visa so must have been playing as an Amateur so I assume Class A, if he was playing as a Professional then there are all sorts of other problems.

He said he’d won a state championship - I assume that is the highest level he’s achieved. And that’s not the national/international level that EB1 requires.

That was my thought, there are a few people on YT I occasionally watch who are good but not that good and they are well over 2,000.

I think Anna is 2175, her Mum is a lot higher.

I think OP must be in 2400-2500 range, otherwise applying would not make sense. If he responds we will know then.

That is exactly the case. I am an International Master and have actively been competing all my life. 10+ years of teaching experience.

I did not think you could enter Texas as an Amateur over 2,000?

Honestly I fail to understand what status or work authorization you were here for 4 years after graduation. While the EB1 was being processed, is it like an AOS that you have "authorizied stay"? If you had any income, was it through what type of job/visa? These questions are not just curiosity but for clarity on what type of ban if any you'd be under when you leave the US.

I submitted the paperwork for Green card right before the covid. During covid processing took a very long time and after I got the denial, I appealed it in the court. So the entire process took about 3-4 years and I just got the response from the court. I have a work authorization so I have worked multiple jobs, mainly chess related but also with my major as well as outside of the industry.

You seem to be well versed in this subject. Are you a player?

That’s right, I am exactly in that range.

Makes sense.

I have played but preferred other games.

Now I do like watching people who can really play. And I know some of the basics regarding competitions. Reminds me of a case we had years ago about a Student who was a pro Poker Player.

I have won many international events including World Youth and European Youth Championships. Also won US Grand Prix 2021 which means most tournaments won across US for that year.

Yes, I am a professional player. What problems?

Would you like to take a guess?
