Move to Russia!!?? Are you high?? Hell no! No, i'm just kidding......I love visiting for long trips but that's plenty. I think Mawilson is not too far off. Those with little to gain or little gained will be more compelled to live internationally and "start over" so to say. I can understand that. but why on Earth would I give up my job, my safety, great medical, beautiful weather, and apple pie??? I'm a traveling fool, but I gotta have my USA. Not to say that I wouldnt retire to another country later in life with my wonderful Sasha. Hell, I'd do it now if I could have the kind of living I have here.

mawilson: even if I made a fortune, I'd still want to spend a lot more time in Nepal than I do now. The value of the dollar there just makes it all the more attractive.

"I have to go to Nepal, because I'm the Chosen One? Why can't anybody choose me to go to the Bahamas?"

I plan to retire in the Philippines. 15 years from now we will buy a house, maybe some rental property and kick back. It isn't because, as Jenn pointed out, because of a lack of money but because I really like the Philippines. The people are very friendly, the climate is nice and any western luxury that you might want is available. It just seems like a very nice place to retire to.

While yes I would agree on that but there are also lots of other factors such as whether you like a place and it's people, traditions, norms culture etc. I would not live in NYC, for example, even if they paid me. I love going to Greece and India yet their income is nowhere near any other English nation.

There is a lot more to life than money. This thirst and hunger for the quick easy buck is why the US is where it is. No previous civilization this money hungry has survived, ever...

Amen brother. LIFE IS NOT ABOUT $$ & frankly this thread is making me ill.

Awww, you poor people with not enough money to be happy in the U.S. Too bad you can't be rich like me, cuz I mean if you're rich, why wouldn't you want to live in the U.S?

That's exactly right. If you have $$$, the U.S. is the best place in the world.

Where do you think the world's wealthiest people are living? Nepal?

I hope that's sarcasm Mark.

Really? GWB makes it one very unattractive place to me. Not to mention close-minded Americans. Or greedy ones. Or the lack of cheap international travel. Or good food. I can go on & on....

Sorry you don't like it here. It's a good thing there's a great big world out there for you to choose from. Please feel free to choose another place to live.

I am speaking to Mark's comment that America is the #1 place to live....(according only to Mark, of course).

Wait till Hillary's in, Gary, you'll be just as thrilled as I am now.

I wasn't sarcastic. I suppose London is just as good, but you'd need 4x the money to maintain

the same standard of living.

How does GWB affect you personally?

Not all Americans are close-minded or greedy.

Why do you care about cheap travel if you can travel First Class?

There's plenty of good food and great restaurants.

Something I wonder when people say they will retire in another country(either the SO's or a 3rd random country), how do kids factor into it? Or is it mostly couples who don't want to have kids? Because when I am old I think I will want to be near my children and future grandchildren, or at least in the same country, not on the other side of the world from them on purpose. I don't get that part. Life is short.
