Hi everyone,

My fiance and I are awaiting his interview this upcoming March, and are starting to prepare for our marriage and filing for the green card.

We are aware of the months it will take to receive the green card, but of course would be ecstatic to get a work permit within the first 6 months of being married.

My fiance previously had a work visa in the U.S., where he obtained a SSN. Is there any chance that could expedite the process in any way? Any information on this topic is appreciated!

I don't see how that would expedite it. In fact, I could see how that could slow it down as they need to verify there were no violations.

I would not expect his past history to expedite the EAD.  You could be looking at 3-8 months before USCIS issues it.  Any RFIE for the I-485 would also delay an EAD,  Good luck on your journey.  It is quite a ride.

We married March 22, applied on March 29.  Husband had a previous SSN from back in college, 25ish years ago, when he was over here with his first student visa.  He had an EAD from this time around, allowing him to work in his field after graduating.  That one expired in April, but used the same SSN he had years and years ago.  This time around, he got his EAD approval notification on July 1 - and the card arrived in the mail on July 9.  It's the same SSN being used again, but it didn't seem to help speed things up at all.  We got the EAD in about 3 months.  He says the one he just got about a year ago, on the latest student visa, took about 3 weeks to get once he filed for it... so he was a bit shocked at the 3-month timeline.  But it seems to be fairly quick compared to other peoples' experience...

The immigration processes slowed down significantly compared to 10 years ago. Not you're lucky to receive EAD within 6-9 months.
