N-600K for an adopted child. Did anyone go through the process recently?

Hi there,

We're both American citizens who have been living outside the US (a Spanish-speaking country). We adopted a child and thought, because we're US citizens, that he would automatically qualify to become an US citizen. We were wrong. We just received the news that we qualify to file a N-600K for our adopted son, and if approved, we will take a trip to the US for the interview. There was a gentleman here who posted about his successful experience, but he did it for his biological sons; our case is for an adopted child. I am curious to know if there's anybody out there who has had the experience of filing a N-600K for an adopted child, and how was your experience? Thanks a lot.

Do you have all adoption papers for the kid?

 

Which country are we talking about? There's been a debate here about some countries and their adoption process. 

 

Is this kid related to any of you by any chance? Eg child of sister, cousin, brother, aunt, uncle?

Yes, we do have all the adoption papers. The country is Ecuador and he is not related to us.
