Hi,

I'm currently at the NVC stage and one of the questions asked to determine which financial documents are required is "did you submit tax for the most recent year?" Given the tax season just started a couple days ago, I am interpreting 2023 as the most recent tax year. What's holding me up at the moment is that my spouse is obviously not a resident, which forces me to submit a W7 to get an ITIN so I can file "married filing Jointly". The problem is that I don't have her original documents with me here, so I am in a bit of an obstacle there.

Can anyone give me advice on how to proceed? Thanks

In summary, it took 13 months for approval of the CR-1.  It took 44 months for approval of the I-751.  It took 4 months for approval of the N-400.   It took 172 days from N-400 application to Oath Ceremony.   It took 6 weeks for Passport, then 7 additional weeks for return of wife's Naturalization Certificate..

Have her scan the needed documents as copies are all u need for NVC

depending on what documents u submit to IRS for the ITIN,  get originals, u have till the 15th to submit tax returns for 2023,  make copies of all the pages of your returns before mailing them as these returns will be slow to process. I   believe u still have to submit these by mail to IRS and not online as IRS wants originals.

U have a long wait for the interview and at that time (it will happen after April 15th and at that time  a new I 864 will be required with 2023 returns so just copy and keep the documents

Now just submit 2022  income

Thank you for the info. One follow-up questions:

1) How can I get her to sign the W7? Just send her a copy, print, sign and return to me?
