Hi all,

I have my spousal Visa approved and will be entering the states soon.

Is it legal for me to start sending in job applications saying I have the right to work? I'll be free to work once I enter the country and would like to get myself on a few radars!

Thanks!

Your passport will be stamped upon entry into the USA and that will serve as proof of your permanent residency for up to a year or till when you receive your physical green card. Unless your passport is stamped, you are technically not allowed to work in the USA, so I will advise you get your passport stamped (endorsed) then you can send out your job applications.

I would use your US address and a US phone number as they are likely to bin applications otherwise.

Yeah thats what I've been doing, I know a lot of applications these days get reviewed automatically by a system so want to at least get past that haha!

This was exactly what I did, I started applying for jobs after I knew on which date I would be in the US. Since all my past experience was in the NL of course, I added “authorized to work in the US” and a little note that I would permanently move to the US on xx date. Otherwise they wouldn’t even consider looking at my resume.

I had a job interview 3 days after arriving in the US and started my job 2 or 3 weeks later.

Amazing, thanks so much this is very helpful! Yeah I'm not anticipating getting far but I know some companies occasionally keep resumes stored so just trying to think ahead :)

Yes, you can start applying for jobs.

Yes, I started applying to jobs before I received my visa and started working 2 weeks after my arrival.

Another member on here started interviewing before the I130 was approved and had a job waiting for her when she landed. I forget her name but she was looking to expedite based on job offer.
ETA I had a profile on indeed and received a message from a recruiter a week before flying to the US.

So, I also suggest having a profile on indeed and LinkedIn and start making connections.

Amazing, thank you. Yes, I've been networking on LinkedIn and asking around my current company to see if anything might come up stateside, too!

I had seen someone who had expedited on the basis on having a job offer now that I think about it.

Thanks again!
