I had to learn how to write cheques moving to the US, in Europe they went pretty much extinct 40 years ago and I never learned how to fill one out... :)

They've been mostly dead (yes, that was a Princess Bride reference) in Canada for roughly 20 years now. Hardly anyone accepts them, and the government sure doesn't take them for passport payments or other official services.

I'm still gobsmacked that I was able to buy my current vehicle here in 'Murica with a personal check!

$1,225 is indeed the correct fee for I-485 from K-1. It wouldn't surprise me if the two separate money orders tripped you up here - someone at the lockbox intake saw one of them and spent all of 5 seconds concluding that the wrong fee was submitted without even looking for the other one. Did you list "U.S. Department of Homeland Security" as the payee?

The form fee is 1,140 and biometrics are 85,  the sum is 1225, you can sent 1000 on one MO and 225 on the other, like they did, as long as the sum is correct. What the USCIS will not accept are different methods of payment combined, like for example them sending the check and money order, which they didn’t.

Money order is definitely traceable. You can call the 1800 number or go to the website listed on it to see if it was cashed.

And cancelable too, depending of the issuer and what part of the process it’s at.

If that's your RFE (cant tell or see the pertinent info at the top????) it is saying you filed out your I485 wrong as a K1 AOS application.

A clear, full copy with name, address and A number redacted of RFE AND MONEY ORDERS (to see if they are filled out correctly) is needed to help any further.

What visa are you actually applying for? You’ve posted this in the K1 AOS section but the RFE doesn’t seem to match that. Please provide more info (and complete your timeline). Thx.

Not visa. As far as I can tell, OP is adjusting status from K1.

But the RFE seems to be for another type of application, it says no visa is currently available for his category. Hence my confusion!

Exactly.

The RFE isn't about payment at all.

The whole RFE with with petition type at the top is needed.

The screenshot begins with "This is in reference to the I-485..."

I see what you mean.

Essentially, it says OP is not eligible to adjust. Meaning they're not trying adjusting based on marriage to US citizen.

Maybe they came on a different type of visa and trying to adjust through marriage to GC holder or US citizen parent / sibling? Then it's a wrong forum for sure.

Or... did they just not marry their fiance yet???

@Gurita are you married to a US citizen?

No timeline on their profile either.

I'm seriously thinking about boycotting all members who refuse to help us by filling out their timeline before asking questions in the forum.

I hope no one ends up using this post for help because by golly, it's all over the place and could confuse so many unnecessarily.
