Inquiry on I-751 Processing Status and Follow-Up Procedures

Hello,

 

Once your I-751 has been submitted and you have received the 48 extension letter, is it advisable to periodically check the status of your interview/card. Do you check on my.uscis.gov occasionally, or do you wait for them to contact you?

I strongly suggest checking the status online from time to time.  Any mailed notices could get lost in the mail.

I'd often check it weekly from my phone 😅, but you probably don't need to do it that much. Every two weeks, or even maybe once a month would probably be OK as well.

 

While we always got the notices in the mail within a week or two of any online updates, I agree that stuff can get lost in the mail. Therefore it's a lot better to be aware of things that have happened and know when to follow up if things don't arrive than to miss some mail and several months later be in a worse situation with USCIS because they thought they mailed something to you and you never got it.

I check online occasionally and keep an eye on Informed Delivery to see if I have mail coming. I almost missed my biometrics last year because I did not receive an online notification, but I had a letter in the mail (that took forever to get to me. I received it 2 days before I had to get in for the biometrics appointment).

Very good point! Informed Delivery is a must.

Sure, but you will be wasting your time. Best solution is to download a case tracker app and refresh it periodically, and to have informed delivery. 

 

Also, be aware that case status only updates when it is approved, or if something like an RFE is issued (and a couple of other things). If it is denied it doesn't update, ever - it remains as showing pending.

I wouldn’t solely rely on it, but myUSCIS also sends out email notifications when there is a change to the case status.

I can’t remember if it is enabled by default or needs to be configured in the settings.

Agreed, I used:

- Informed Delivery

- Case Tracker

- MyUSCIS notifications

It doesn't for an I-751 denial (as above, that case status does not change even after denied). 

But it does for an N-400 denial (and case status does too).

Maybe because for I-751, one gets put into removal and goes through immigration court VS nothing like this typically happens if N-400 denied? Maybe I'm rationalizing too much...

Would make sense... it's 'denied' but you remain a LPR until it has gone through immigration court, then BIA appeal, and supreme court. Only then is it 'official' I guess, as that is when your permanent residence is legally terminated. Whereas the N-400 is just approved/denied, with no ambiguity.. Different sectors of immigration. 

 

 

I still find it hilarious that the oldest (original joint) one says 'last status change' well over 3000 days ago (in 2015)...despite the denial for it being received 6.5 years ago, in 2017.

 

Anyway, trying not to derail the thread - my point stands, that your case status doesn't necessarily reflect the current status of your case.

What are the different statuses that we can expect to see? So far I see these items in my status history, and I'm curious to know what are the next statuses that I can expect to see in future? Thank you!

August xx, 2023 Card Was Delivered To Me By The Post Office

August xx, 2023 The Post Office picked up mail containing your new card.

August xx, 2023 We mailed your new card your Form I-751, Petition to Remove Conditions on Residence, directly to the address you gave us.

August xx, 2023 We approved your Form I-751, Petition to Remove Conditions on Residence.

August xx, 2023 We ordered your new card.

April xx, 2022 The fingerprints relating to your Form I-751 Petition to Remove Conditions on Residence, were taken.

December xx, 2021 We received your Form I-751, Petition to Remove Conditions on Residence.

You can get statuses about interview ready to be scheduled, interview scheduled, request for evidence and some more.
