Hi all,

Unfortunately my husband lost his proof of citizenship right before our interview which is scheduled next month. Replacing it will take almost a year...

Anyone with experience using a valid US Passport as proof of citizenship? For more content, we're applying under the 3 year rule and his current passport was valid since Sept 2021 (few months shy of three years). We have his expired passport that extends back 10 years prior.

Any thoughts/experiences welcome!! I'm scheduled to be in the DC/Fairfax field office. Thanks

Does he have a copy of certificate?

Did he file for replacement?

Maybe that's something you can show if asked?

I would not start the interview with that, only if he gets asked. Also take his passport.

Unfortunately he did not taken a photocopy of it so I don’t have that. We will file for replacement this week and bring that receipt.

You should be fine with his passport and the N600 filing receipt.  If asked for the certificate, explain the situation.

Thanks so much for everyone that responded! Hopefully good things moving forward

Even if you believe your husband does not have a copy of his citizenship, perhaps he does. Keep looking, maybe there is a digital copy.

This happened to me before, I was pretty sure I did not have any copies of my citizenship and after looking carefully I found one but to my surprise at the end I was never asked for proof of citizenship, officer had everything already in the system, so Iesson learned, don't stress too much for things that are perhaps more simple than you think.

Current US Passport is a solid proof of US citizenship and should be enough if asked for, even the passport card is proof of citizenship, although for unknown reason (maybe somebody can instruct me here) there are certain situation where an officer requires to see the actual citizenship certificate, especially when you are a naturalized citizen. Good luck 👋

My spouse lost hers in 2016 and did not realize until my interview day, was never asked for it, we did a police report on it and till my citizenship, it was never brought up. We just know it's somewhere around the house. So you should be fine with the lost certificate receipt.
