My wife is not a UK citizen. She is there on a visitor visa. The consular officer didn’t ask her why we didn’t get married in UK since she wasn’t in UK before we got married. They have her passport and wedding album. Did they ever say, your husband is in administrative processing? I heard if you are in AP, it takes about 60 days. I am now worried that my wife will be stuck

in UK for next few months..

Not sure where you’ve heard it takes 60 days, it can be a lot longer than that. Unfortunately your wife applying as a visitor will mean being put in to extended AP was almost inevitable, as the UK haven’t done any checks on her before really.

I know someone at the same embassy they placed in AP on Wednesday and issued her visa the following Monday. You can never tell with them.

Just to clarify, everybody is put in to AP whilst final checks are done. But for most it’s very brief - my status was AP for just a couple of hours before it changed to issued.

@appleblossom Yes, I know but for her, she wasn’t approved instantly and was handed the green sheet with Additional Administrative Processing checked so it wasn’t the regular one as yours.

@M S Khan I don’t think the color makes a difference. If you submitted all they asked for, let’s hope you hear back from them soon. Wish she had gone to the interview with them. My husband went with our pictures and copies of my travel tickets. She even went through his phone for more pictures. Yet, they still went to verify from our home country.(I’m 100% sure they did).

It appears they just look for an excuse to make people wait forever…

It has been almost 3 months since her interview and no news from the embassy for my wife. Today I finally requested them to send us back my wife passport to which they said they will send it back and will require it back when all the necessary checks are completed. Do you think it was a good idea to get the passport back? I hope they don’t delay it because now they don’t have the passport?

@M S Khan Sorry to hear your wife’s visa has still not been issued. I remember you mentioned she is on a visitor’s visa so it could be they’re doing a background check in her home country. Getting the passport back won’t affect whatever checks they’re doing. They’ll request for it back when they are convinced and ready to issue the visa. The same thing happened with my husband’s own.

Thanks for a quick response. It’s very frustrating for sure. One last question. How quickly did they issue the visa right after his second medical exam? Ours will expire in Nov and we are nervous about it? Also, did they ever ask for his continued legal status in UK?

@M S Khan No, they did not. My husband is a UK resident and wasn’t on a visa but I don’t see it to become a problem even if your wife travels out and comes back when her visa is ready. My husband received the email for additional medical on April 26, he then called the clinic on April 30 and his appointment was scheduled for May 7. The embassy received his medical report and requested for his passport on May 16. After the passport was delivered on May 20, his visa was issued on May 2023 and he received his passport with the visa on May 30th.

Woww - It’s impressive you still remember all these dates. Thanks for explaining all that. I guess we will patiently wait till we hear back from them. Most of my friends are kicking me for requesting the passport back from them but I knew your case so I wanted my wife to have her passport in case she needs it to travel or for any other reasons. Also she may need it for her medical as well in case she has to redo. That’s the only ID they accept or valid UK driving license which she does not have…

@M S Khan Hahaha I went back to the records to give you the correct dates. The passport remaining with them won’t speed or delay the Admin Process. We received the same backlash from family and friends too for requesting my husband’s back but like you said she’ll need it for the medical. Hopefully, they issue the visa before it expires but if they don’t, then she’ll need it. The embassy actually waited for my husband to complete his 2nd medical before they asked us to submit the passport. Good luck to you guys.

UK allows holding multiple British passports AFAIK.

Why not just apply for second one? Waiting for visa with international trip lined up is a valid reason to apply for second passport. The first can stay with US embassy however long it needs.

Still nothing from London Embassy. The last email they sent was about they are doing some checks and that’s all. We have been waiting for almost for 4 months now. Is there anything you recommend us doing that you guys did to help expedite your case? Senators and congressman of no help at all. They get a candid reply as well from embassies. Had you consider filing a mandamus lawsuit?

AP can't be expedited. If it's only been 4 months it's too early to file for WOM I'd say, but if it gets to a year with no outcome then it would be worth considering.

Good luck.
