Yep.....that sounds about right......equivalency & licensing exams are pretty costly.
Hi,

you can try WES

http://www.wes.org/

Would this be accepted for all types of degrees? My fiance is a pharmacist and everywhere I looked for the different exams they were looking to charge him $700 for one test, and then he would still have to take more tests than that. If we have to pay $700 we'll pay it but with the new AOS fees and etc I have no idea how we're supposed to be able to afford it.

ouch. Oh well, whatever it takes. Maybe once he's able to work he could be a pharmacy tech in the meantime just so he doesn't have to wash dishes or whatever he's fearing he'll have to do. My friends had pharmacy tech jobs when they were in college and my fiance holds a US high school diploma so he should be able to get something.

Divorced. To hell with him.

Well maybe he can pay for the tests by working as a tech and then move up in the same pharmacy once he passes them. That sucks though. :(

How come this hasn't been a bigger topic in the past? I mean don't all people who come over with a bachelors have to go through this in order to put it on their resume? (not talking about docs/pharmacists/etc but just your average joe's)

 No idea. I'd say not unless it's in the medical or education fields or if their English skills are lacking. It's a pain to figure out all the tests he needs to take, but immigration.com was a pretty big help for that.

How many people go to college in ME/NA? I don't think it's as high as it is here.

Divorced. To hell with him.

We've talked about this several times in the past, someone asks, others post their experience, a few people post about WES and the topic is done. We actually discussed this just last week and I posted about a friend who never thought their SO's degree would be considered here but WES was able to do it.

How can one claim God cares to judge a fornicator over judging a lying, conniving bully? I guess you would if you are the lying, conniving bully.

Thanks for the links!

I can see having to take a test to be a doctor/pharmacist, etc. but hopefully his degree with transfer for this purpose.

What subject is his degree in?

Math and science are good ones and many people are needed in these fields

I have learn't a lot from this thread......thanks

Before your sweetie comes to the states have him go to where he went to college and request ALL is transcripts. It usually takes a couple weeks for them to be transcribed, but, it will alleviate him having to send for them.

The university will have the transcripts in english so won't be a problem. Also a suggestion for you....once he is here go with him to your university (4 yr) or Community college, see a counselor, and they will know what courses are compatible with the American system and what courses he will have to re-take or just refresher course. Good luck!!! :star:

It's actually a two year degree so it's not what I originally thought it was. I'm glad that I asked him for his papers so that now we can at least get that certified and see what he's eligible for. It's in business so a lot of times experience also helps. He worked for over ten years as a sales manager for an office supply company so he is gathering his sales stats on that as well and hopefully that info will help any future employers.

I have a few people that I know in the pharmaceutical industry that promised to interview him so we're hoping that he'll land a sales job with one of the companies that I'm talking to. A friend of mine is in that industry, albeit in NYC, and does very very well. Of course she has a LOT of energy and is a great salesperson so that makes a difference so we'll see.

I've learned a lot from this thread too!

Transcripts and syllabi if possible. Also, at least for those coming from Egypt, make sure the transcripts have all the official stamps. My husband just had a plain transcript. Luckily, he went to get it checked out and found he needed lots of (expensive) stamps put on it to make it official.

Of course, not that any of this matters. My husband's accounting degree (english language section, all classes taught in english, all american books, many american professors) was evaluated to be the equivilent of an american accounting degree, but it hasn't done jack squat in helping him get a job.
