Hello!

Hope you are all well. In sight of some information and hoping someone can help. My green card expired - My green card expired on 08.10.2020. I needed to travel December 2022 so I got my I-551 stamp November 28th 2022 and was valid until November 27th 2023. Fast forward to 2.22.2023 - I get a notice in the mail saying they have extended the validity period on my form I-551, Permanent resistant card (also known as green card) for 48 months.

So the date of extension would be until August 10 2024. The issue Is I need to travel back home to England in the end of June to attend my brothers wedding. I would return home July 13th.

So my question is.. Do I need to get the I-551 stamp again? because of it being so close to August?

I hope this makes sense.. Sorry if I confused anyone, honestly just trying to make sense of all of this myself and coming on here feels like some sort of normality.

Thank you! :)

Jessica.

No.  Just return prior to expiration of the extension letter.

You must have both the expired Green Card and the extension letter.

Also be sure that they didn't clip the corner of your physical greencard. That's what they did when I got my stamp. They let me keep the card but clipped the corner to make it invalid. In that case you'd need to get another stamp.

Hello everyone!

I am flying to London in two weeks time and trying to make sure everything is prepared. I am wondering if someone can help me make sure I do not forget anything paper work wise!

I have multiple extension letters (my green card has expired but have been given multiple extension letters due to how backed up the offices are) My extension letter runs out in August this year

(assuming I will get another letter closer to the time)

I will bring my green card, extension letters, passport, is there anything else I need to bring that I am forgetting? Any help would be amazing! My brother is getting married and that is the reason for my trip back.

Thank you all. :)

You won't. If you plan to return after your extension letter expires, get an ADIT stamp before you leave.

No.  You can return any time before the extension letter expires....even the day before.

If you wish but you don't have to. Unless you think there's possibility of missing flight / getting sick. Stamp would give you up to 1 year

Reading between the lines (since your VJ timeline is incomplete), you applied for removal of conditions some time before August 10, 2020? If you are asking this question now it means that this still hasn't been approved almost 4 years later. Are you planning to apply for citizenship?

Applying for citizenship through the N-400 often results in the I-751 being approved faster for those in limbo and is frequently done by VJ members, especially for those from countries that allow dual citizenship.

Since it seemed like you would have been eligible to apply within 90 days of the 3-year anniversary of the Resident Since date on your GC, seemed worth mentioning.

Approved I-751 or citizenship = no more extension letters or stamps.
