I, US Citizen, applied for my mother and father with I-130 and I-485. We have been requested for an interview, however it's about 6 hours from our house! We live in Houston and there is a USCIS office here and I been there for other interviews. Do you guys know why this is happening at another location and/or if the location if the interview can be changed? If so, how? Any feedback w ill be appreciated as our interview is in 2.5 weeks.

In summary, it took 13 months for approval of the CR-1.  It took 44 months for approval of the I-751.  It took 4 months for approval of the N-400.   It took 172 days from N-400 application to Oath Ceremony.   It took 6 weeks for Passport, then 7 additional weeks for return of wife's Naturalization Certificate..

What does it show when you search by your zip code?

you have to scroll down to the bottom

When you search my zip code, there is a closer location available. I've been to the close USCIS office multiple times and that's where I became a US Citizen as well. So SUPER confused on why we are being asked to drive 5+ hours away.

That is odd. I would definitely call or at least chat with a live agent.

I’ve read anecdotal evidence that sometimes cases are rerouted to a faster field office that can be further away. But I’m not sure how that works or if that’s the case here

Sometimes other offices take on cases to get them processed faster. Sure it is a drive to get there but if kept at the closer office it would add months to their case.

Probably no appointments available at your local office and you were given this one to help clear your case. Depends how fast you want a green card whether to reschedule. Reschedule will set you back in time.

So I had a somehow similar situation. Just to add to some context to mine:

We moved from WV to OH in August 2021. I even filed my ROC with my new address, got official USCIS notices, etc. I also filed AR-11 for change of address. Come February 2023 I applied for N400 and they sent me to WV for my biometrics. Meanwhile, I have an ASC that's not even 20' away from my home. My original appointment was Febr 23rd. I just took a walk in on Feb 4th in my ASC, and not only did they allow me to do biometrics, but they also explained to me the following:

During the pandemic, some ASC or field offices were closed, and they routed those cases to nearby offices. Even though their offices are fully operational now, USCIS headquarters hasn't picked up on this and they still send applicants to far away places. It might be your case.

Your parents might not be able to do a walk in, though, since it's an interview. I'm just trying to provide you with a possible explanation.

I called USCIS prior to attempting a walk- in and the lady said "no, don't attempt a walk in, we will get you scheduled for one in the next 30 days". I am glad I didnt listen to her, as they never called me and I am already a USC.

So whatever you do, do not reschedule!

Thank you all for the information! I keep hearing not to reschedule but was planning on calling the 1800 USCIS number. I can also setup a infopass appointment at my local USCIS office and see if they can help me?

@America1 did you change addresses?

Either way I'd rather go to the interview than reschedule. Rescheduling can get the case delayed or stuck in limbo. If you need to come there a day before and stay at a local hotel - you may as well do it.

No did not change any addresses. We are planning on going the day before. It's just that my parents don't speak good English, so I need to translate for them. I hope they allow that.
