Hi,

I have a couple of quick questions regarding AOS and would really appreciate some advice. I'm a K-1 visa holder and I'm getting married this week (woohoo). My quesitons are;

1. Do I have to wait until I've received my SSN before filing for AOS, or can I just put "NA" when asked for a SSN on the forms?

2. I understand that as a K1 holder I don't need to submit another medical exam for AOS. But how do I obtain a vaccination suppliment form (I-693A). Can any doctor supply this?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Craig

Congrats on the upcoming wedding!

1. No you don't have to wait, but you can apply for a SSN regardless. As the husband you likely won't have a name change issue, but if so apply after the marriage (in case you are taking her name.) It is not a difficult process, just find your local Social Security office and apply, but do so well before your I-94 expires. They should be able to give your your number the next day, and the card within a week or two.

2. Shop around for a civil surgeon, you can find a list at the USCIS for them in your area. Prices vary widely, shoot for $40 to $80 and stand firm you don't need a complete exam, just your DS (sorry can't remember the form number) immunization form given at your K-1 exam translated on to a I-693A. Many insist on giving full exams you don't need in order to jack up the price you will pay.

Good luck! :thumbs:

I cant give you a answer about your 1st question because my husband had his Social Security Card b4 we filed AOS....

But I can answer you on the I693A...you have to find a civil surgeon in your area and tell them what ya need and scedule a appointment..and fees range on this ...we paid $75.00 for this, but I have head of others here on VJ paying way less. It is pretty painless we was in and out of there in 15 minutes.

Good luck on your up and coming marriage! :)
