08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

I remember reading about this some time back.

 

You can win a prize not the prize, I think the bottom prize is 15x the bet, so yes you win but also lose.

 

Not quite my first job but I did work at a Bookies one summer, very apparent who wins and it is not the punters.

A company I used to work for sponsored a Horse Race once a year, we would all go, Client entertainment etc. Back then I think I put 20 quid in my pocket and if I came away with anything that was a result.

Years ago, there was a story (or rumor) about a couple somewhere in the U.S. who bought lottery tickets in every possible number combination.  They allegedly won but ended up losing money, I seem to recall.  Not sure whether any of this was true at all.
