Hi Everyone,

I had my interview this past thursday at the Gears rd office in Houston, was recommanded for approval and my case was updated this morning: oath ceremony is scheduled for 8/17. I have an international trip planned early september. I had mentioned this trip to the officer during the interview and she advised that I could reschedule (I doubt that I’ll be able to get my passport in time even in emergency processing).
I’m concerned of missing the 8/17 ceremony and that the second one will be scheduled prior me coming back mid-september (and there is a 10 days quarantine when coming back from overseas).

anybody has had success recently getting passport in emergency processing?

thanks for your advises :)

I think you can get an early pp appointment in emergency cases but I’m not entirely sure. Do you remember when you had your bio appointment? I’m trying to gauge at my possible interview date and I had bio done last month.

They took down the online scheduling appointment for Houston and that office doesn’t accept walk in so I really don’t know if I should writr a letter explaining the situation and asking to reschedule from Sept 23rd (return date + 10days quarantine per letter requirement) or just cancel our trip which is fully paid and non refundable ;( seems like a spoiled person comment but we have family joining us there and well...

I applied july 30th 2020, got bio reuse letter in Feb. interview letter received in June for July 29th. From there everything is moving pretty fast actually. Good luck to you :)

I have not seen anyone in this thread (Houston office) or in the passport thread who has asked to reschedule an oath within 2021 so no one could guess how long it is going to take to do the reschedule.

Options

  1. If you are not in a rush to get a naturalization certificate in your hand then go ahead and request the reschedule now. Maybe you will get a reschedule notification letter prior to going on vacation for when you get back. Maybe you wont. Upside: you wont lose out on your vacation and associated monies. Downside: you potentially wait for weeks or months - the big unknown
  2. Plan to attend your oath. Between now and a few days before oath date, see how you can get an appointment for an emergency passport. Even if it means traveling out of Houston / Texas to get that appointment. Realize that you need to be traveling within the next 3 days to be able to attend an emergency appointment. That takes a big leap of faith as once you have done your oath, you will be required to travel back into the US on a US passport. If you believe you can't get an appointment, ask for a reschedule prior to the oath date. Upside: Get passport. Go on vacation. Downside: lose out on vacation and monies and don't know when the rescheduled oath will be. Start with https://www.visajourney.com/forums/forum/158-passports-etc-what-to-do-now-that-you-are-a-us-citizen/ and see what feedback you get.
  3. Do what Timona did... he's planning to travel out of the US on his home passport and apply for his US one in his home country. Look at potential Embassy appointments in the country in which you are vacationing.

Good luck and congratulations on your approval

How accurate is the estimated time on the USCIS portal under your account?

Is the application date or the Bio reuse letter a better predictor on when the interview would be schedule?

The time seems to be allover the place based on few cases from friends and from here.

Thanks.

When's your oath?

8/17

Book a refundable international ticket for 20th.

Call  8774872778 on Monday August 9th and tell them your flight is on the 19th AND you want an appointment in Houston for the 19th of August. Insist on your trip being the 19th AND you want an appointment for the 19th.

Get PP. Cancel the ticket

Call around 7:30am CST or 2:45pm CST. As soon as you hear the phone talk, quickly punch 11224 to get past the automated system.

Appointments for 18th, 19th and 20th are currently open. However, as I said, go for the 19th. I tell you this because some agents are annoying as hell and:

1. Don't even know what they're doing

2. Knowing that you're under their mercy, they will want their 2 mins of power and screw you up. One lady agent kept on arguing with me that I couldn't get an appointment yet the appointment I was seeking was withing the 2 week timeframe. She ended up trying to screw me by insisting on having my flight details to put in the system or else she couldn't make the appointment. Surpringly, I knew she was wrong to demand my flight confirmation. She just wanted to screw me up. After 1.5 months of seeking PP appointment, I know the rules like the back of my hand. I knew she was trying to revenge.
