I believe this time frame  is correct. I submitted my  N-400 application March 2018 and had biometrics done April 2018. I was under your case is actively being reviewed since April,and yesterday 2/14/19 I finally received an update “interview has been scheduled” 🙏🏼.

Looking at the google tracker, it seems that April filers haven't started receiving Interview Letters. Its a little strange because some with 31 march 18 PD got the interview letter on 15th Feb

My interview was scheduled at 2:10pm. I got to the USCIS center at 1:20. It was too early and my husband and I waited for it to be 1:40 for us to go in.

 

We went through security fairly quickly. I was glad we waited because I noticed at check-in that the guy looked at my interview time and this little cheat sheet with appointment times and the allowable times those can check in at. He gave me back my appointment letter and told us to wait. It was pretty full. There was one side that was mostly empty, so we waited there. 

 

We were a combo interview. So the officer did the 751 first. My IO was a woman. She had us sit down then we did an oath to tell the truth. She asked for our names, address, and shot me a look and asked me my husband's DOB, which I answered pretty quickly. 

 

Then I almost had a panic attack because she asked me for stuff I didn't bring. The tax transcript for 2017 (I'd brought 2016 thinking it was 2017). She asked about a joint bank account, and we told her about Venmo. She asked for our lease, but when we showed her she said it needed to be signed. We explained it was e-signed. But luckily, that didn't hinder us at all. She asked us questions about which one of cooks, how we met, where have we traveled together. Things were more relaxed after that. She even asked if went to Tulum when we went to Cancun.

 

She approved my removal of conditions. She said she needed to get it signed off and then she would do the citizenship interview. She signaled us to the waiting room. After about 20 minutes she called us back. She asked me questions about my application. Then went to the interview.

 

1. Who does a senator represent? All the people in a state
2. Why did the colonists declare independence? For being taxed without representation 
3. What's the capital of the US? Washington DC 
4. What is the Capital of Texas? Austin 
5. What Ocean is on the east coast? Atlantic 
6. What's one right the first amendment gives you? Freedom of speech 

 

 

I got them right. She asked to read, "What do we pay the government?"

I wrote, “We pay taxes"

 

She told me I was approved and that I'd ever have my oath ceremony on March 13 or April 17.

After submitting your N-400, did they transfer your pending I-751 to your local office? If you don't mind can you tell me what updates you received on your I-751 after the N-400 was filed?

I'm contemplating whether to wait for I-751 approval or to file N-400 while I-751 is pending. Any details will be highly appreciated.

So they did transfer my case in May of 2018 to another office, it didn't say local just said "another office". I will say that as I understand it when you file both they combine it and all the time you waited for the 751 doesn't matter, you've essentially gone from the middle of one line to the back of another line. I had to get my passport stamped and was in limbo for a while. I submitted a case inquiry for my 751 in January 2019, since it had been pending for almost 2 years and they replied that it was still within reason. Three days after that I got an update that my interview was scheduled. So I feel like the case inquiry got someone's eyes on my case and they figured they should make the appointment.

 

 

My cousin waited until after his 751 was approved to apply for citizenship. He definitely felt more confident going in because he had his green card without conditions. I've hated traveling with the stamp, but it wasn't too bad. I would definitely apply as a combo, since they're taking long anyways.

I am a little worried, my GC expires in July and I submitted my N-400 May 2018. I just received a notification that my case is still under active review. Should I wait a little longer or renew my GC? I am thinking the latter.

Looking at the timeline of N400 in Houston, I am expecting you'll have your interview in May/June and won't be naturalized until June/July. Just be caution not to lose your resident status.

It is my 10 year GC. I think I will just renew to be on the safe side as you said.

I was told that if you have a 10 year GC you won’t lose your status if your card expires . The only thing that will expire is your green card itself not your status.

Thank you. I just called and was informed my FBI background check has passed, I asked specifically as the officer only told me I am still just in waiting. I was not told I was placed in line for interview as I forgot to ask, but hopefully with the background check having passed, it means I am at least closer.
