Seeking asylum

Wondering if anyone has thoughts, positive or negative on  saying screw it, and just have my wife try to get in through asylum applying at the border.

Are you familiar with Mexico? 50% of women have been raped and its not even an issue with police. I wouldn’t say frivolous. But understand your point.

I think you are getting overexcited. Do you have the big bucks for an asylum lawyer. Does she have supporting evidence of what has happened to her.

Everybody here understands how difficult and frustrating the long wait times are, we’ve all been there. As frustrating as it is, please don’t go down this path. It’s just not right..

So she'd be happy to never return to Mexico again?  Because that is kind of the deal with asylum.

She needs to have supporting evidence showing something very bad happened to her in the past and will likely happen again if she stays in Mexico. Something of a magnitude such as: rape, physical violence, imprisonment...

 

Otherwise, she should not file for asylum.

I'm familiar with the Texas border, its crossings, and the current mood of the CBP agents who staff it.  In short, and also for reasons mentioned above, don't even dream of trying it.

 

The frustration that you're feeling is commonplace.  When the [censored] Guayaquil consulate was hosing everybody and thoroughly jerking us around, I wryly observed to Mrs. T-B.-to-be, "You know, if you were an illegal Mexican, you'd be here already and be on top of the world."  She didn't object to this comment.  Of course, we didn't pursue it, and we finally fought our way out of that [censored] mismanaged hellhole infested with the Devil's illegitimate spawn* and returned to the comparative relief (!!?) of dealing with USCIS.

     *sometime, I'll tell you how I really feel

 

Border/asylum conditions then were far less perilous than those today.  Keep her safe, do whatever it takes to minimize your frustration (violent physical exercise helps), and let this infernal process continue.

Thank you, I see people lined up every week when I’m crossing and from what I’ve understood they are just being sent on their merry way. I would never do anything to put her in harm. So this is the kind of feedback that h  er los.

IF a court determines that an asylum claim was knowingly frivolous -- because it includes a misrepresentation of a material fact -- a very serious consequence can be applied.  The person can be permanently banned from ever seeking any immigration benefit for the US

 

I'm not saying that would be the result in your case if you filed, just showing the extreme consequence in place to avoid actual frivolous claims.

Ok thank you all. Sounds like the risk outweighs the benefit.

We're all pulling for a speedier process for you.

You can spend the time becoming an "A" student of all stages of the immigration process.

In addition, you can make plans so that she can hit the ground running upon ultimate arrival.

Finally, you can believe everything that jan22 says about anything in these forums.

Thanks tb. I’m getting there slowly. I’ve got a pretty good map of all the things I need to get done.  Changing jobs and moving has not worked out financially like I had budgeted for and it’s been difficult, but we are blessed that we get to welcome our baby boy sooner than had we waited for the visa.

 

And in some unrelated info. Jan 22 was the date of our marriage.
