Delaying interview

We have our interview scheduled for next week at the embassy in Seoul. Something has come up that may force us to stay here much longer (6+ months) than anticipated.

What options do we have at this point? Would we just skip the appointment and then wait for them to contact us with another date? They don’t answer emails at the embassy.

If we do skip, would we just redo the medical exam? What if the periods happen to overlap? Hopefully they just know to throw out the previous medical? The hospital sends it directly here.

Edit: What happens if you receive your visa but don’t activate it before the 6 month expiration? How far back does it put you?

One option is to attend the interview, get the visa, and travel to the US to "activate" the Green Card.  You can then immediately return to home country for a few months.  Otherwise, any rescheduling must be done by the consulate.  Medicals expire after 6 months.

It would put you back to the start. Visa issued but not used is voided after the expiry date

refile, pay$$$$ again and  go through the WHOLE process again

I'm assuming the USC is also in Korea?

I would go to the interview and see what happens.

If you receive the visa, you can travel to the US (before the visa expires - 6 months from date of medical) and then return to Korea to wrap up your business.

But, there is a chance the consulate requests proof the USC is relocating to the US (this happened to us- we interviewed in Korea). In this situation, you should have 1 year to respond to the request for evidence. The validity of the medical will expire and you will have to re-do the medical before you can receive the visa.

If you have gone to your medical already the 6 month clock has already started ticking, so canceling the interview will not change your time limit (unless you speak to the consulate/embassy and see if it is possible to re-do the medical.

I know one person who was able to delay/cancel the interview once. But, was warned they would not be able to delay/cancel the interview a second time.
