Hello, I had my Oath Ceremony back in March. Do you know if the social security offices are open now in DFW? How do we update our SSN now that we’re citizens? I only have the old Social Security card that says “valid for work only with DHS authorization”

No, SSA offices are still not open to public. They are giving appointments on a case-by-case basis, but I don't know if updating Citizenship info qualifies for an appointment. You can call & find out.

You can update via mail. But you have to send proof of citizenship - earlier they wanted the original Naturalization Certificate and many advised against sending it out (you should never have to give your NC to anyone other than just that once for passport). But now they are accepting Passport / Passport Card as proof of citizenship.

IMO, it is not worth the risk to mail out the NC or Passport / Card. There is no rush to update your SS, and I will wait for the SSA offices to open (or get an appointment).

Question on judicial oaths.

I have heard that some field offices are not giving name change certificates signed by judge at the time of oath ceremony. Instead they are mailing them after couple of weeks.

Anyone who recently attended your judicial oath in Dallas received name change certificate on the same day along with naturalization certificate?

I have my oath ceremony next week. If they do not give name change certificate on same day, I'm concerned I cannot apply for US passport or update DL and SSN card.

I would appreciate if anyone can share their experiences

Congratulations..!🥳🎊🎉 My oath is less than two weeks from now too at same place of yours in Irving, Dallas..

Do we really needed right away to update our DL, Ssn ? I hope this can be wait until the ssn offices are open because now still close.. but the DMV maybe can wait to if you didn’t update right after your oath..

Once again congratulations.. 🙂🎉

I have changed my name via N-400. Thats why I need to update DL, SSN, Bank Accounts etc.. as soon as possible.

Texas law says that within 30 days of name change, I need to update Drivers License.

If you are not changing name, you can update DL, SSN after few weeks. No need to hurry now.

However, even without name change, I recommend updating. Because if your DL record do not show Citizenship Status, when you DL renew is due in future, you cannot renew online and have to visit DPS every few years.

If Citizenship status is not updated in SSN, when you change jobs or request any social security benefits you may face some challenges.

Also DPS will not allow to renew your DL online if your SSN do not show Citizen status.

@dfw2019 thanks for the info.. yes I don’t change name and of course I will update my DL, ssn & etc.. but my concern is the ssn because until now they are close… the DL it is okay if my ssn it not yet updated if I go first on my DL to update? So the only docs that I have will be my Naturalization Cert. & my old DL & ssn? Do you think the DPS will accept it?

Hello everyone! I had my interview on 5/11. My interview was scheduled at 10.55am. Arrived 15 minutes before. I only waited 5 minutes and was called at 11 am. My interview went well and took only 10 minutes. The officer was very nice. My case status is still showing interview scheduled. Does anyone know how long it takes to change? The officer told me I passed my interview and will receive letter for oath.
