Trouble with a I-751 extension letter at the airport (Split)

Hi everyone. I am sitting at a small airport in Germany and they were having trouble with my extension letter. They said the physical card failed and the extension letter does not match my alien number on the physical card. Anyone had issues with this? Flying to London and hoping to get in front of a U.S immigration officer or someone who has experience with these letters. Any tips or insights are appreciated. Thank you.

Does the alien number match or it doesn't when YOU compare it?

It's USCIS# on GC and number in Petitioner field on extension letter.

I looked at mine and they match. Letter has "A" in front of number and GC doesn't which is OK.

If the numbers match, I'd say don't bring it up in the UK yourself. You likely had an incompetent airline staff. Which airline?

Worst case you'll have to apply for boarding foil at US embassy.

Oh gosh. Yes it does match. I don’t think she was even aware of the alien number. But she removed my green card from the system now. She was incompetent. Fingers crossed it will all work out. Thank you for the quick response!

You can always ask for manager when this happens. Which airline?

Good idea. I will ask for a manager when I get to London shortly. I’m flying with British airways. I just purchased WiFi on the plane and added my GC information back to my flight.

I would suggest for anyone trying to travel with this extension letter in the near future.., don’t unless you have to. Wait until your case gets approved. Such a headache today.

Update****

I did make it back to the U.S. after a big headache. Turns out their airport staff was not aware of these letters and it took them almost an hour to manually enter the new expiration date. The lady at the security check did not even bother to look at the extension letter at all. I had my fair share of panic attacks yesterday lol. I did however hear that British airways is always the strictest airlines to travel with. Once I tried boarding my flight, my boarding pass declined again, however, there was a really sweet lady who mentioned that she’s seen this before and she let me through. US immigration at LAX was thankfully super familiar with my letter and after asking me a few questions, I was able to return home ❤️

safe to say: I won‘t travel outside of the US, until my case is finalized.

I'm glad you made it back in the end.

The moment airline staff was having issues, you should have called their manager. Also it helps to show them Carrier Information Guide

https://www.cbp.gov/document/guides/carrier-information-guide

I had PDF printed in case if I had to show to airline staff, but thankfully never had issues travelling on expired GC and extension letter. One time an airline agent was puzzled, but called her manager who instantly helped.

Sorry you had those issue - insist on having a manager look at things next time.

I traveled the world on my extension letter for close to 2 years - what else are you supposed to do when USCIS processing takes forever? You'll also likely have multiple extension letters in your future when you have to renew your GC.

I never had an issue, from small German airports to remote airports in Asia or South America. And yes, I used to carry a print out of the CBP guide linkd above.

I took a very early flight from Hannover and there was no manager present I believe. I am so glad it all worked out though.
