I don't think anyone is disputing that a younger man can fall in love with an older woman. However in society it has always been more acceptable for age differences to be the oppisite of that. Maybe in 50 years that won't be the case but right now it is. Especially in MENA.

When you look at the US, and you see an older woman with a younger man, people will make all kinds of comments. Boy toy, sugar mama, etc. People aren't used to it yet, and if its not the norm here it definitly won't be the norm in MENA.

Plenty of people with age difference has gone through the embassies and gotten their visas. Focus on the rest of your evidence and don't worry about the age difference because there is nothing you can do about it anyway. Good luck (F)

I have heard of petitions being returned because of age difference or so they told that to the beneficiary. In reality they just had suspicous about the relationship and used this until they could think of something else. Too often they have used half truths when responding to why a petition was returned.

Good luck to you and your SO on his interview.

Hey you,

I'm just wondering how you know that it is a "half truth"?

Hey you,

The only truth was that the petitioner WAS much older than the beneficiary yet the consulate used a totally different excuse to deny the visa. I'm sure we all know of other's who have been denied where the consulate told a different story than the beneficiary.

If the consulate is denying petitions because of age difference then wouldnt they deny them all? There has to be other reasons for the denial otherwise every couple with an age difference would be denied. If the consular gives reasons for the denial other than age, then why wouldnt those reasons be valid?

Hi,

I'm not saying that the reasons the consulate gives after the interview aren't valid. Just the fact that they will say to the beneficiary that there is an age difference and that is why they are being denied when it isn't the real reason. One of the cases I know about has a very large age difference. The consulate told the beneficiary one thing but then told the petitioner something different.

Which is why this is such a difficult process to understand. How do we know what was said? It's all hearsay, biased, possibily misunderstood information. Antedoctal stories are fine, but they have very little real value beyond giving us a glipse into the process.

I agree 100% with you.......it is all hearsay. It would be interesting if the interviews were video taped. No twisting around of words or misunderstandings.
