So based on all those things, they are NOT processed in order. :)

cuz the petitions that are easy to approve skip the ones that have to go through lotsa security checks and the ones in which documents are missing?

I still believe the majority of USCIS workers are just plain trying to get through the day and pay the bills the best they can. They are no nicer or nastier than your average ** sapiens [...]

Not all untrue, but if we re-read what that nice ImmigOff told me yesterday, he all but came right out and said "Don't rock the boat -- don't anger them by asking them anything -- my request on your behalf, even in your delayed circumstances, could have the opposite effect from what is desired." The more that I mull this over, the more disquieting it is. If this reflects the "organizational culture" at the Center, it's more than just the system that's broken, si man?

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

And thank god for that. If they were processed stricly in order, your RFE would hold up everyone behind you.

They are, however, processed in as close to "in order" as humanly possible. There are exceptions (e.g. military expedites, Cubans) and there have been some unexplainable early approvals (minions of Cthulhu is my current working theory) but for the most part it's done in a pretty fair series/parallel system.

As to why some people seem to wait weeks or months longer...I don't know. They are the exception that proves the rule, although I know that explanation is of no comfort to those stuck in the system with no explanation.

People are broken too. :\

hahaha...that was done a few months ago. Somewhere around the 80 day mark I believe.

Wow... what it was like to be at the 80 day mark... full of hope and joy...

Ok - bathtime - am being very good and not checking USCIS until I get back...

...when I will proceed to return to my refreshing every 30 seconds

I don't suppose we will ever really know. I can't help but wonder what it is in our circumstance...

an RFE that just hasn't been issued?

name check?

security clearance? whatever that means...

waiting in a forgotten pile with TBone's?

on a desk of someone who's out on leave of absence?

My call last week did not even prompt a touch. That was only my second call; the first was back on October 29th to update my mailing address. On that call, she told me my case had not been assigned yet. Shouldn't it have been by that point?

sigh :(

I got security check AP at NVC....thankfully in the words of the guy at DOS....."oh man thats the quickest admin process file I've ever seen" was only in AP friday afternoon to Monday morning!!!!

Unless one of us infiltrates the ranks of USCIS I guess we'll never truely know what goes on!

YES, or at least by a week thereafter. The VJ sample (perhaps statistically valid) seems to reveal 5 months as the common time-until-approval.

Re-read my post of later yesterday (in response to Mox, I believe) about an approach to take during your next phone call. They at least owe you the information of exactly WHERE in the Division your file is, and because you're over 180 days and July/August apps have been approved before yours, you have the right to ask them to send an e-mail to the floor.

Keep the faith, Stephanie -- the most beautiful thing in the world is a woman with a smile on her face, and that Most Beautiful should be you. :)

Something like this is certainly better than nothing, Lora! And don't sweat it -- for months now, I've been badly abusing my day-pass from the mental asylum. :)

Yeah, I found your post really interesting. But I find it even more disheartening to call and not get anything from it. :( In a few days they should be updating their processing times, and although I have no real great hope that it will move much more than a few weeks, perhaps it will. Either way, I think I will call again with your post in front of me next week.

Thanks for the encouragement. :)

I really hope you guys who have been waiting so long get approved soon - it does seem so unfair that you should have to wait so long and not get any info or news as to what is going on *hugs*

Hey tbone....

I think you and I should start a new club: the 180 day club, and anyone else who qualifies is welcome to join us; we could alternatively call it the 6m club, the half-year club. Any other suggestions?

Does anyone know the record for the longest 129f approval (ignoring rfe's, etc.)?

This really isn't fun, in fact i get more angry each day, but i am trying to think of ways to pass the time. To be honest, i start to get depressed when i think about how long it is taking.

I asked my congressman's office to schedule an appointment for me with the director of csc. She said they don't see people. I then asked her to schedule an appointment with the director's assistant. She said they don't see people. I told her i want to fly out and go to the service center. I asked her who i can see there. She said I can't see anyone there, I have to call customer service. That is the group responsible for handling my concerns. I said, "yeah, but you told me earlier that they are not allowed to give out any information." She said that is true, but i need to talk with them.

For the first time in my life, i feel i am living joseph heller's catch-22.
