Yes it does, I wasn't sure about SSN so I thought I will just get one when I send for AOS. I guess it is what it is now, I would have to redo forms now, it will delay me because I plan on sending everything next week.

Why would you have to redo them? You can send them tonight if you want to. There is absolutely no need to wait to get an SSN to fill out and send the forms. SSN is not required for AOS. Don’t take it the wrong way but there seems to be lack of research from your side. We’re trying to help you. I can’t remember how many threads I’ve seen over the years of people regretting not getting a SSN when they had the chance. Knowing the pain of not having an SSN in America, I would do anything in my power to apply for one tomorrow.

No need to redo the forms, and no need to wait for SSN to file them.  Just go to the SSA office ASAP, and file your AOS forms ASAP.  You may still answer "Yes" to the I-485/I-765 form question "Do you want the SSA to issue you a Social Security card?" even after you hand in your SSN application in person.

This ⬆️⬆️⬆️ I already had an SSN and still answered yes to those questions in hopes of getting an updated SSN card with my married name to avoid a trip to the office. They didn’t even send one when the time came, I had to go in person to correct it. But really though, USCIS doesn’t care if you don’t have one when applying for AOS. Otherwise they’d make it a requirement

I agree with you all. I did miss that part and I didn't research it well enough. I thought since I can't work, there is no need to get one but I see my mistake now. I guess I do not have to change anything on the forms and go tomorrow to get me a SSN. You are all right, I just realized my mistake now.... 😞

There's no mistake, you can still get SSN. Cheer up and show a big smile to SSA staff 😁

You need go first thing in the morning tomorrow to an SSA office and apply.

K1 arrivals are eligible for an SSN if they apply within 75 days of the 90 days. In some cases, even if you apply before but close, if you’re past day 75 while they’re processing it, they will not issue it. You’re cutting it kinda close.

You will not be able to get an SSN while AOS & I-765 are pending. You will only be able to get an SSN AFTER they’re approved and you will need the actual card when applying in person.

This comes up a lot, at least a few times a month. This was the most recent one:

Hey I'm just now seeing this. So we actually received a SS Card today (didn't go to SS office but reached out to congressperson and I guess they encouraged the immigration people to speed it up a bit) but I think the AoS is still pending. Does getting a ssc while AoS processes mean that I should expect a decision on the AoS soon? Perhaps an approval?
