Hi all,

I recently submitted a few applications to petition my parents to obtain their Green Card. I am a US Citizen and completed I-130 for my parents and submitted that along with I-485 and I-864 earlier in November.

We got receipts stating that everything was received and the checks were deposited. Does anyone know what the approval timeline looks like at this time? My parents are currently residing in the US under a visa. If I recall correctly, once you submit the application and they have the receipt, that document suffices to prove that they are legally in the US. Is this correct?

When will they receive their work authorization permit? Will it be towards the end of the process once everything is approved, or is this a separate application that needs to be submitted?

Thanks in advance.

Highly dependent on your local field office (LFO). Check processing time here: https://egov.uscis.gov/processing-times/

pending I-485 grants them authorized stay in the US.

You didn’t state that you submitted I-765. This is a form that, if approved, grants an Employment Authorization document (EAD).

This, along with I-131 Advance Parole, should have been submitted along I-485 and everything else. They’re free if filed concurrently with I-485. You should file both forms now, attach all required supporting documents and include a copy of I-485 NOA1.

Do I need to complete I-765 per parent, and is it free even if I submit them now?

Yes

To confirm, I-485 NOA1 is the receipt, correct?

Correct

I highly recommend filing I-131 Advance Parole as well. Life is unpredictable and it’s always good to have that in your back pocket if an urgent need to travel arises. especially that it’s free.

Thanks for your help. @powerpuff

Be aware that it can take up to 8 months to get the EAD (work auth) and AP (travel doc).

All, we received a letter stating my parents need to complete form I-693.

They already received one of the required shots last year, so they are going to pick-up their vaccination record to take with them to see the civil surgeon.

My parents also have received almost majority of the vaccinations back in their home country but do not have the record or access to that information, so we're going to schedule an appointment for them to get all of them.

Should they get vaccinated first and bring those records with them to the civil surgeon or see the civil surgeon first? I'd hate for them to make multiple trips to the clinic and get charged each time.

What are all the required shots and things they should have completed before scheduling an appointment with a civil surgeon?

Thanks!
