Is angel on top of the tree a British thing? Oddly that's what we did in my childhood, suspect my mom found a nice one at some shop somewhere and that's how we ended up with it.

Not SUPER lightweight, but lightweight enough - check out Crate & Barrel.  I have a somewhat mid mod inspired wire frame one that I paid I think $16 for.  Simple. No lights. Just a star.

One year, many, many years ago, we had no money for tree decorations.  I think my dad paid like $5 for this rather naked, Charlie Brown tree.  My brother, step-sister and I colored paper, cut it into strips and made paper chains to decorate the tree.  We made popcorn garlands and we took cardboard, cut out a star and covered it in aluminum foil to give it the shiny finish we felt it needed.  It wasn't the prettiest tree out there, but it certainly was a tree that came from the heart!

We make our own sausages because I just couldn't find any I liked here and on the back of that I make Scotch eggs and sausage rolls and everyone around here begs me to make more.

I was munching on some Twiglets tonight, standing in the kitchen while he was in the living room watching TV. Like any self-respecting man, as soon the show got a little quiet and he could hear the rustle of a snack bag, he came scurrying in to see what I was snacking on. Practically slid in the room in his stocking feet, only to discover it was Twiglets (alas) and not the very nice Walkers Cheese & Onion crisps. He called me a heartless tease.

The naked trees used to be preferred when people used real candles as decorations. In Austria and Germany, it's still popular, hence you still see the naked, spindly trees there. I learned they don't keep the candles lit very long, usually just something you do for a few minutes while everyone is near the tree to create the ambience effect.

I seem to remember making decorations as a kid, the paper loops certainly. 

 

Real trees well you can get a permit for $5 here so why not?

NO!!! I've been a repeat customer for more years than I can remember -- through 2 husbands even! Awful awful awful.

 

I just got my last delivery from them a few weeks ago....
