It is that time of year and I have been here long enough to let most things go, obviously not HP sauce and the odd jar of Branston, but somehow I am more inclined to stock up now, Christmas Pudding, Mince Pies etc, and some decent chocolate of course.

 

Now the prices make me wince, probably because I am remembering prices from years ago.

I found many sweets, mostly Cadbury, double cream for cooking and crackers in World Market (California).

 

I'm excited to get some minced pies, jaffa cakes and other miscellanious stuff.

 

May stop by a liquor store doing imports to get some Green Spot Whiskey. It's pretty smooth, love its taste and the price is moderate.

You can get a good number of proper "British" things if you bump across the northern border.  When I had to leave for the 18mo while my visa process was playing out, DH, a Brit, was delighted to find things like proper chocolate and reasonable dairy.  He delighted in making sausage rolls while we were there, too.  Unfortunately, he never did manage to perfect the Yorkshire pudding at altitude with a wonky oven that didn't seem to heat evenly.  

 

In the US, he's ordered from https://jollyposhfoods.com/ to get some proper sausages.  

 

Me, being Canadian - my kids just came back from visiting their dad and brought back their favourite granola bars and brought me some Moritz Icy Squares. I've commandeered a cookbook from an expat Canadian who wrote all of her recipes for expats, sourcing available local ingredients to mimic a taste of home.  I will say that Nanaimo squares require Bird's custard and not vanilla pudding, irrespective of what any recipe says!

I have ordered from British Corner before... there's also British Food Depot.. those prices though lol. Thank goodness Jolly Posh exists too. The local grocery store does have a small British section so there are usually plenty of overpriced Cadbury, mushy peas, and Jacobs. Ribena is a favorite of mine but it all has artificial sweetener in it now unless you go over to the Asian grocer (the OG one I found imported from Malaysia). Some things we will never be able to get like Stotties and Greggs gingerbread men.

In Louisiana at sundown, people go out and draw circles around the roadkill on the highways.

In the morning, what's not circled is fresh, so it's good for breakfast.

These are great.  I've never seen one as big as the one pictured; they're mostly in narrower bars.  On last visit, I came back with half a suitcase of bagged Manichos.

 

The closest comparison that I've found in the U.S. is Mr. Goodbar, but the latter has half-peanuts and Manichos have peanut fragments.  In addition, Manichos are slightly sweeter.

 

Edited to add:  For some reason, the native Ecus of my acquaintance seem to prefer Tangos (#7).  I find them too crumbly and nothing that special.

Well, over (or down) here we have to regularly visit the "Russian" stores.  Actually there were two different Russian deli stores here but they both eventually closed down, so now we have to go to the "Polish" store to get her Eastern European treats.  Fortunately there is a decent "Russian" store in Key West that we are regulars at.  On the rare occasion we are on the other side of the state (Miami/Ft Lauderdale) there are several of these stores due to the very large population of Russians hiding out there at the beach.

 

There are always bags of Pelmeni in the freezer and jars of pickled veggies in the pantry along with Russian candies (that are just so so) and very good Russian chocolate.  Would write the name but my computer doesn't have Cyrillic alphabet.

I'll never figure out why Ecu bakery products are always coated with grease or butter but are almost always too dry to eat without an accompanying liquid.
