“It’s sad it’s come to this,” said one man, a soft-spoken spectator in his 20s, not a rioter. “But the situation has got out of control.”

He was referring not to the riot consuming central Dublin on Thursday night but to immigration, and a perception that foreigners – and especially asylum seekers – were driving a crime wave and worsening a housing crisis.

“Their religion has no respect for women’s rights,” he added. “The men are dominant.”

The police charged and the spectator fled, unable to elaborate about any affinity with Dutch voters who last week backed Geert Wilders’s anti-Islamic Freedom party, or with other election results across Europe, but there was little need.

Amid the fumes and shouts and sirens blazed an uncomfortable truth. The Ireland that for so long had seemed to buck Europe’s anti-immigrant trend and offer a “thousand welcomes” to the foreigners who reshaped its economy, society and demography – the Ireland that seemed immune to xenophobia and demagoguery and backlash – was not so different after all.

Why do the anti-immigration parties have to be labeled as far-right?

 

Because the media need to make you fear the message, and the easiest way to do that is to fear the messenger.

 

What 99% of high-education, low-information voters miss completely, often willfully, is that for all his evil, Hitler was a socialist and that Marxist/Communist/Socialist/Left Wing ideology has resulted in the deaths of far more human beings than Fascism/Right Wing politics.

 

Not that I support the right, being an Independent, but the level of cognitive ignorance in the USA is mind-blowing.

Blame Ireland's migrant surge, not 'right-wingers,' for Dublin riots

 

DUBLIN — In the 12 months leading up to April this year, 141,600 immigrants landed in Ireland.

The Irish population has increased by more than 2%.  If the US had similar immigration, it would mean 9 million extra people.

This is the highest level since the prosperous "Celtic Tiger" era of the late '90s.

Ireland's non-nationals comprise a whopping 20% of the population.  The tinder box of immigration blew open Thursday with a mass riot in Dublin following the stabbing of a number of young children outside a school near the main street.  [...]
