Birth Certificate | Colombia

Hello,

A birth certificate is on the list of items required to take to the K-1 visa interview. What is the time frame that a certified copy of the birth certificate needs to be within? We do not have a set appointment, but my fiancé has a certified copy of her birth certificate (registro de civil) since July of this year. Will this work for the birth certificate requirement?

Thank you.

For US immigration purposes, there is no expiry date for certified copy of birth certificate.  The important bit is that the BC is issued by the correct issuing authority and conforms to the format specified on the Department of State Reciprocity page -- https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/us-visas/Visa-Reciprocity-and-Civil-Documents-by-Country/Colombia.html

Your fiancee has the "copia del folio", right?

If your fiancee will be interviewing at Bogota, no need for English translation.

Yes, thank you.
