Am I allowed to travel after being approved for AP, but before receiving the card?

Hey all,

A couple of days ago I received my I-797C which says that I am approved for the AP Document. However, I would like to travel within the next 2 weeks, and I have no guarantee that I'll have the document with me by then. Is it safe to travel without the document and then possibly mail it to me in another country for use in the reentry to the US?

Possible yes.  Nothing stops you from leaving.....but going without the actual AP documents is risky.

In summary, it took 13 months for approval of the CR-1.  It took 44 months for approval of the I-751.  It took 4 months for approval of the N-400.   It took 172 days from N-400 application to Oath Ceremony.   It took 6 weeks for Passport, then 7 additional weeks for return of wife's Naturalization Certificate..

You can definitely leave. Whether you'll be admitted back without the card is not guaranteed.

If the I-797C was adequate evidence of receiving permission to be paroled in, why would they bother with the AP document itself?

You will need AP in hand if you want to get back in without starting al over again.

For the same reason you can't board a plane with visa approved but not in passport or passport renewed but not in hand.
