I would love to move back to Canada in a few years. I don't like it here THAT much to be honest. The only reason I decided to settle here was because my husband has a career and doing well, and I just got out of university so I didn't really have an actual career just yet. He also has a HUGEEEE family and I don't really. But I miss the small one I do have :( haha

I hope to have two homes at least if I have to stay here in NJ. I would like to have a home in Ottawa, Ontario as well as my home here. Canada is so great and I cant just break my ties!

"...My hair's mostly wind,

My eyes filled with grit

My skin's white then brown

My lips chapped and split

I've lain on the prairie and heard grasses sigh

I've stared at the vast open bowl of the sky

I've seen all the castles and faces in clouds

My home is the prairie and for that I am proud…

If You're not from the Prairie, you can't know my soul

You don't know our blizzards; you've not fought our cold

You can't know my mind, nor ever my heart

Unless deep within you there's somehow a part…

A part of these things that I've said that I know,

The wind, sky and earth, the storms and the snow.

Best say that you have - and then we'll be one,

For we will have shared that same blazing sun." - David Bouchard

This totally sounds like me...

I have just my parents (& me, for now) living in Toronto ...

He has a huge family! A brother (& wife), a sister, his parents, 3 living grandparents, aunts & uncles, a cousin..

So, it looked like the choice was made for us..

Plus, I'm not super family oriented like he is... (but I hear that might change once I move.. hmm, we'll see)

So, not sure if I'm going to miss them like insane.. or if I'll be okay with the occasional visits..

Unfortunately it isn't an option in my case.

Mel has a young son that he shares 50/50 custody with.

This is why Joel is here with me. My daughter (she's more Joel's than she is her father's) will be of legal age in 10 years. Yeah, that's a long time, but unless something happens to where we could move sooner, we're here until she's 18. We feel very certain that when the time comes she'll want to move with us. Sometimes joint custody sucks...at least in my case it does.

I know Bee and I want to eventually live in Canada. The issue is convincing Bee's family that we want to move back.

Nini - Vancouver BC, Canada (she's the one who does the forum thing)

Bee - Devon PA, USA (he's the one who gave her the shiny ring)

I'd like to move back eventually someday. As nice as it is in the US, it doesn't compare to Canada, especially with the economy the way it is now. It always struck me as a little funny that we have to get together all this evidence to prove that our relationship isn't a sham, and that I'm not using the system to get into the States... it's like, I'm from Canada, why would I even WANT to move down here if not for my wife?

So Your child is American right? I wonder if they have the same law in the states as they do in Canada? See, My daughter( she's Canadian) is 11 yrs old and once she turns 12, she is legal allowed to choose whom she wants to live with. He bio dad as we call him in Canada OR my husband & me in the States. We have joint custody and this is written up in the agreement. Canadian Federal family law states that the courts feel the child at the age of 12 has an understanding of the circumstances and is mature enough to decide for themself where they want to live.

Maybe you could look into whether or not this same law applies to your child?

I would Love to go back to Canada, but we both have good jobs here.

I"m sure there are lots of people who want to move back soon thereafter..

what are the reasons you want to move back to Canada though..?

My reasons (if you mean that as a question for everyone) are...I have no family here, just my daughter and my husband. All his family are back in Nova Scotia, friends too, not to mention that I adore the Maritimes. He wants to move back as well...he only immigrated here because I couldn't emigrate there due to custody issues with my daughter's DNA contributor. Anywho...those are my reasons. :)

I got chuckle out of this statement :lol:, but if it wasnt meant to be funny...SORRYYYY

First, I want to thank everyone who did reply. I didn't know I had it in the wrong forum, sorry. I know I mentioned Canada but I figured my post would apply to anyone who wanted to go back to their home country.

That said, I completely agree with the post that I quoted. If it weren't for my fiancee, I would never have even WANTED to move down here so I am hardly using her to get into the country. lol I think USCIS takes themselves a tad too seriously. :)

I had considered staying here until after getting US citizenship but I think I heard that Americans still get taxed even when they live abroad.

I HATE miles, gallons, pints, words spelled without u's, and all that other jazz...

There are tax treaties so you do not get double taxed!

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

Yeah. There is no other reason I would leave my beautiful, prosperous country other than love. I would hope that USCIS understands that but...

Seriously! I was so tempted to say at my K3 interview, "Listen, I don't even want to live in the U.S. except for my husband, 'kay?" :P

It's true though. I would never have a reason to leave if not for the hub-bub. I think 99% of us will say the same thing. (the other 1% citing a better job)
