Hello there! My father started filing for me and my 2 sisters so we can move from Jamaica to the US back in March 2020, however, he received only one letter in the mail stating that one of my sisters were approved. It is almost 4 years now, and I am a little worried that our father will not get me and my other sister’s approval letter. So I'd like to ask, will there be any problem with our filing? Is it possible that he could get the next two approval mail later on? They haven't asked for anything else. I understand that for us the process will take years because we are all over the age of 21 and unmarried. My sister who got approved hasn't received any notification to get the documents together for an interview, yet though.

What does the online case status say?

Before that happens the petitioner needs to submit documents to NVC along with some other civil documents from your sister before you’re put in the line for the interview. Also depends on what the priority date is.

According to the lawyer who is helping him, it says it is being processed on the website. At least that’s what he told me. I tried asking him for the number that i can use to check on it myself but he doesn’t know where to find it and he isn’t computer savvy.

He asked us for several documents, including pictures of our passports and birth certificates. And it was after that he got only the approval letter for my sister in the mail.

The I 130 got approved and it is a bit random how long they take.

It does not really matter, as long as they are approved before your PD is current.

Oh that’s good. That gives me some hope. I developed my skills in coding, 3D modeling, animation, I am going to get started with develop my skills in database management using PostgreSQL soon, and I wouldn’t want all that work go to waste. There are no opportunities for those skills here in Jamaica.

You are showing F2a but you are currently F2b, maybe F1 in the future.

If your father filed the I-130 petitions for you and your sisters only in March 2020, it is unlikely that any of you will be scheduled for visa interview before 2028, regardless of when the I-130 was approved.  Check the visa bulletin maybe once a year to get an indication of how many years you may still need to wait -- https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/legal/visa-law0/visa-bulletin.html

2028 seems optimistic.

2028? That really long, but I can wait. I thought the F2B filing takes up to 5-6 years? That’s what I’ve been told a lot and from what I’ve seen from some of the websites.

The Visa Bulletin will give you an idea but remember the date on there (Sept 2015 for your category, so just over 8 years wait) is only relevant for those who applied back in 2015. Anybody applying now will have a much longer wait - you can look at previous Visa Bulletins and if you do that you’ll see the date for the F2B category hasn't moved forward at all for over 2 years.
