How do you know which POE's you can use to activate a visa?

Yes, probably a stupid question, but I've already tried looking for the POE I normally use when visiting (I cross by water on the Victoria Clipper,) and I can't seem to find their phone #. Just wanted to plan ahead a bit since I am pretty sure I will have to alter my plans a bit and fly from Vancouver to Seattle or something.

Thanks guys! One of those links had the POE that I'm pretty sure the Clipper uses, so I'll probably call tomorrow and see what they have to say.

I went through at Pembina, not only were they not familiar with the K-1 visa but the guy doing the paperwork had been on the job for about a month. There ended up being about four other agents standing around helping him get everything done.

Ha we went through at Pembina too, and the woman who worked with us seemed to know something about the K1, but she didn't know that it was only good for 1 entry! And a few of the other guards helped her a bit too. Its a bit suprising considering that its a fairly big POE, but some of the people there are definately more experienced than others.

When I tried to enter at Marine City, Michigan - even though I had gone in person the week before to verify they could activate a K-1 - the woman (a different woman than the man I spoke to) refused to activate the visa. We had to travel another hours drive up to Port Huron, cross back into Canada and come in at Port Huron to activate the visa. Of course, they were curious why Marine City refused to do so and said they certainly could have if they had wanted to. I guess some of the smaller POEs may not be familiar with the process and not wanted to bother to find out. Their 'problem' added 4 hours of unproductive travel time to an already overly long trip - with 6 unhappy carrier confined cats in the vehicle. My eldest cat never recovered from the stress of the trip - and I am pretty sure those 4 extra hours were a contributing factor.

We crossed in Calais.. and they were not used to doing K-1's. Our CPB officer kept saying it had been a long time since he'd done one and he really didn't want to mess it up for us. He said if a mistake is made it can really frig stuff up later on down the road. They took their time with it, he spent a lot of time looking over our envelope from Montreal and all was fine in the end..

ya, I belive I went through Calais maine as well, the gal had to get out the book, then make a few phone calls!! Was pretty stress free. The customs dude was hard at work playing solitaire on the computer,lol

Actually, I'm headed to NC. I just prefer using the Clipper because they always put me on this tiny little crop duster plane that scares the hell out of me, so I travel by water to Seattle then fly from there since I am such a wuss.

I don't have an interview scheduled yet, but am hoping to hear some good news this month when I call and harass NVC

Haven't actually called and checked yet. At this very moment, I'm getting my employer to write up an employment letter to show the "POE dudes" incase they want evidence that I'm returning when I go to visit this Wednesday. Any one ever had one of these written? I'm not sure what to have him write....
