I've been really positive and had everything going good in as far getting everything done (ssn, license etc) but I woke up today feelin kinda down. One more day of nothing to do, one more day of having no friends around - I'm bored outta my mind and feel friendless!! I know I shouldnt be feeling down as in less than 20 days I'll be starting college and 'hopefully' I'll meet people there. I'm just afraid that I wont find any friends! People here seem to be outgoing and talkative, but I'm the shy one who doesnt really say that much until I know people, and I'm afraid that being that way will stop me from making friends.

I'm sure this is just a moment, bought on by the fact I waited to see what my husband was doing for lunch (he has an extra long one today and was gonna come home to see me) only for him to tell me he's going out to eat with his friends. Thats fine, I dont want to deprive him of seeing his friends, but it made me realize that I have noone to go to lunch with etc. And thats what makes me sad.

I'm sure we've all been through this when moving to a new place, and I'll be fine in a couple of hours, but for now, it's all got a little too much and I just had to share it with someone.

Keep yourself busy.....I had Andre doing puzzles, surfing the net for job openings, making candles, making these CD thingees, cutting grass, working around the house, etc. I remember being jealous cause I was working 2 jobs and he was home doing basically nothing. Both of us found the feelings of the other funny at that point....cause we were both jealous of the other.

There is nothing he can do about having to work. He has too. Ask him to take you somewhere when he gets home, even if it is just a walk around the neighborhood...something to break up your monotony.

And, don't worry....you will meet new people very soon and make some new friends. It has been a little over a year for Andre and he now has more US friends' numbers in his cell then Jamaican friends. It all comes eventually.

Hang in there.

Life's just a crazy ride on a run away train

You can't go back for what you've missed

So make it count, hold on tight find a way to make it right

You only get one trip

So make it good, make it last 'cause it all flies by so fast

You only get one trip

At least you are not the only one, I've been here for almost a year, now I have also a part time job, but at the moment (besides my husband) I haven't any friend......it is difficult, and sometimes sad, I've been keeping to say to myself that it will change, but most of the time if I have my days off and my husband works, I spend the day without talking to anybody because although I have been here for almost a year I haven't made any friend. And the very few I have if I don't call them they don't call because, (they say) they are always busy. So I'm sick'n' tired of begging for frindship.

I hope the situation will change sometime (hopefully soon) otherwise it will be more difficult that what I thought, and everything makes me feel more homesick and makes me miss TOO much my family back home......it is hard......and believe me guys, I've been working I've been going to the gym, I've been going to all the events with my husband got invited to, so I might have had the opportunities to make friends but I guess where I live people don't like making new friends, that's what I think. I never had problems to make friends..... I really hope it's gonna change otherwise it's gonna be too hard to handle to me, hopefully it is a temporary situation..........

Good luck, happiness & friendship to everybody :)

I'm sure things will pick up when you start college. We all I think struggle when we first get here to make friends and the harder you try the less difference it seems to make.

Look on the bright side having lunch in the US is a dangerous occupation I've put on 20 pounds so far. :o

Tell u what, i have the same feeling sometimes. i've been here for a little more than a year. but i still can't find a job. my only friends are my husband's friends. yes they're quite nice and we always see each other, but since i have no job, there's really nothing much we can share and some of them just dont understand me.

also i dont want to spend too much time & money to study. and the job market is so bad here i'm NOT confident that i can find a job even i study... so now during my day time, i'm just trying to sell some stuff on ebay and chatting with a few friends from my home country. Life is boring and hopeless here w/o having a job (i used to work all the time in HK)... but i really can't figure out what to do...

i also hope that i can go out more to meet friends, but my driving and sense of directions suck. i didnt have to drive in Hong Kong, such a small city... now i need to drive no matter what i wanna do outside... i was hoping my driving would be better if i can find a job. but seems everything stuck in here. also, without money and not wanting to spend money, i basically dont go out in the day time...

surfing on the net is still fine with me but i dont know how my life can change in the future...

Sorry to hear you've had a rough one. I've been here about 8 weeks and sometimes feel I'm losing my mind.

I love my husband dearly, but I guess sometimes I feel resentful at the sacrifices I've had to make.

Fortunately, I have the foresight, that this will pass when I actually GET a life! ..lol

I guess I expect him to drop everything in his life sometimes, and make more time for me, but again I believe this is my own low self-esteem due to the fact,

*) I have no friends here

*) I dont have a job yet

*) Im bored ****less

*) I miss my mummy

Chin up and all that!!, These times will pass...

p.s The heat doesnt help, does it?

take care

Although he has to work, I think it is also partly his job to help you adjust. The easiest way to adjust (this is just my opinion) is to keep as busy as possible and just get out and meet people. You will be going to school soon, so you are going to meet a lot of new people and make friends. You will also be occupied with school itself and doing homework, writing papers etc. You will be fine, just give it some time. I'd also say to definitely discuss your feelings with your husband.

dogs are a great idea for companionship but realize that you're promising someone a home for the next 10 or so years.. (maybe even more)..

ps, I've always found homes with dogs (for the most part) to be the happiest of homes..
