How many parents actually teach their kids about sex and birth control? For some its too much of a taboo subject to talk about and kids are going to make their own decisions whether or not the parents approve. This really shouldn't be an issue of who or how it should be taught. It just needs to be taught. From there, kids can make their own choices.

Problem is that safe sex ed is a central part of any promising approach to curb HIV/AIDS. The billions you mention happen to have been funneled away from that to abstinence only programs. There goes your sample, your word of mouth and your pamphlets. Let alone the condoms. That's the problem with the exclusive focus on abstinence. In the real world, it ain't working. The numbers prove it million times over. But then, those that catch the bug were sinners anyway, I suppose.

I was talking about church-sponsored abstinence-only programmes being promoted to the deliberate exclusion (and demonisation) of other safe sex education - in parts of Africa. What 'abstinence-only' programmes were you talking about?
