Abstinence is a crock

You have to give people the information to make an informed choice about what's right for them. And lets face it - Abstinence-only programmes are mostly operated by, or related to - the Church.

Replace your first six words with, people that have kids should take care in what they teach them and when. Seems in your statement you are waiting for govament to come out with a how-to pamphlet on the subject. Oh by the way 6 you got little ones?

How many parents actually teach their kids about sex and birth control? For some its too much of a taboo subject to talk about and kids are going to make their own decisions whether or not the parents approve. This really shouldn't be an issue of who or how it should be taught. It just needs to be taught. From there, kids can make their own choices.

You are aware that a good number of those parents - specifically in Africa where the lack of safe-sex education allows HIV/AIDS to eat away at the continent - still perform genital mutilation on their daughters, yes? But sure, why get any government involved in ending this cruel practice? Or the visrus that has thus far left tens of millions of orphants behind.

How long has HIV/AIDS been around? hmmmm. Have you ever heard the old theory of word of mouth? Give these poor folks some credit. Let me run through a scenario for ya.

Dr. says: your brother just died of aids.

Bro of victim: What is aids

Dr.: An std passed by sex.

Billions of dollars later. hmm. I think there might have been some pamphlets printed somewhere along the way.

Problem is that safe sex ed is a central part of any promising approach to curb HIV/AIDS. The billions you mention happen to have been funneled away from that to abstinence only programs. There goes your sample, your word of mouth and your pamphlets. Let alone the condoms. That's the problem with the exclusive focus on abstinence. In the real world, it ain't working. The numbers prove it million times over. But then, those that catch the bug were sinners anyway, I suppose.

Ever been to Africa? Ever seen the mess?

Your glass is full of holes, and you know it. Im not talking about abstinence. Im talking about common sense. Everybody around you is dyin of this disease and your inclination is to go poke someone. Condoms arent gonna do alot, whats your answer for oral sex?

have I been to Afica? No. If you have, Im sure it was very sad to see whats goin on there. Making decisions based on emotion will wreck you.

I was talking about church-sponsored abstinence-only programmes being promoted to the deliberate exclusion (and demonisation) of other safe sex education - in parts of Africa. What 'abstinence-only' programmes were you talking about?

Its quite simple - expecting thousands of people to use their willpower to 'keep it in their pants' isn't realistic. Abstinence is a lifestyle choice for those who can do it - a condom is a safety net. There's nothing wrong with either - but why does one want to exclude the other?

Condom= safety net? Relying on a piece of rubber is certainly not something I would entrust my life, given the situation in africa. A hand job is safer than a condom, wouldnt you say?

Not to assume anything about your sex life - but I'm guessing that you'd get tired of handjobs real fast ;)

Nothing wrong with hoping for the best but preparing for the worst.

Plain English seems to be escaping you at the moment.

Its an old thing we used to do on the playground. Kid would walk up to another and ask if he wants a hurts doughnut. The kid getting asked this question would be thinking "doughnut" hec yeah! "BAM" a slug in the arm would follow with "hurts dont it"

Its a kid thing. And is a very old play ground joke. Just cuz you dont understand it, doesnt mean Im not speaking plain english. It simply means your not from here. Which is no fault of yours of course.

Please keep this in mind when trying to understand me or anyone else.

Well - old boy. Wake me up in a few years when you've outgrown your childishness. Perhaps then we'll have something to talk about.
