Abstinence is a crock

As far as it goes - there's nothing wrong with abstinence but it can't promoted to the absolute exclusion of safe-sex education. Moreover, when the people preaching 'abstinence-only' are happily burning safe-sex literature - they're denying people the information to make an informed choice on their own sexual health.

Abstinence can only ever be optional - if you have the willpower to make that sort of commitment then good for you; but you can't assume that everyone does, and when you're talking about hundreds of thousands (rather millions) of people - relying on everyone's good will to tide them over is a bit 'airy-fairy'.

As I see it promoting an optional lifestyle choice to the deliberate exclusion (and defamation) of safe sex practices is pretty evil IMO.

I dont know about any of you, but it seems "communication" has been left out of this. If a couple has very eotic conversations on a regular basis without ever touching one another. I think they could make a good decision whether they are sxually compatible or not and can be alot of fun also. Some of you lack imagination or are just to willing to give in to the notion of "their just gonna do it anyway". Its kinda fun to sit across from someone you love and describe what things you would like to do. After the marriage can you imagine what fun these two would experience? Alot of fun would'nt you say?

I dont know about any of you, but it seems "communication" has been left out of this. If a couple has very eotic conversations on a regular basis without ever touching one another. I think they could make a good decision whether they are sxually compatible or not and can be alot of fun also. But we are talking about teens here, correct? How many teens do you know that can have an erotic conversation to see if they are sexually compatible and not touch each other? I work with 17 and 18 year olds every day. If someone says the word "bum" the boys get frisky.... Hell, the Porter's speech in Macbeth increased the sexual tension amongst some of the boys and girls.... Adults sure. Teenagers...not all of them.

Actually I think most of the people on here advocating education are in favor of all options being discussed. I certainly have no problem with kids being taught about abstinence, as long as they are taught about everything else as well.

However I have to agree with what you posted, most teenagers are going to do it anyway. However they might do it safely if you teach them more than "just don't do it".

10 years or younger is not exactly the target audience of the abstinence only crowd. So, what's your point?
