Yep, the Europeans prize American Horsemeat like Americans prize Japanese Kobe Beef. Personally I don't see the problem with people killing horses for food. This is mainly because I don't see the difference between horses, pigs, sheep, cows, chickens or any other animal. Killing is killing, as long as its done humanely. If you don't like it, become a vegetarian. Personally I think people whining about killing horses and while tucking into a steak are hypocrits.

I am one already. :) But I guess I just never knew that people ate horse.

What ever happened to the "Compassionate Conservative" that's what I want to know.

Apparently if you are a compassionate conservative, someone calls you a tree-hugging commie....at least here on VJ.

On a side note, CarolsMarc, I'm wondering if you were blamed unfairly for something in the past, because you seriously have issues with people who speak out against a perceived injustice. You are really quick to point fingers and call someone a whiner. I really don't get it. You make comments like that, call me (or other posters) angry and tell us that our "internet compassion" is worthless. I know that I work with and for those who are less advantaged than I am (and I know a couple of other posters here do that type of work as well), and I don't think expressing an opinion of compassion is worthless. If you ask me, you're the angry one here.

Or maybe you just like to fan the flames?

How about dual citizenship?

Well I would be a dual citizen as I can't give up my UK citizenship by simply becoming a US citizen, but that's not my issue, and that is a discussion for another thread.

Of course you should. The only way we can effect change is by pissing and moaning.

Trouble is, I can't vote so people tend to ignore me, despite being a US taxpayer for 8+ years.

Hopefully not for long now - just hang in there.

Another 2+ years, and I'm not even sure if I want to become a US citizen anyway.

If you don't want to become a US citizen, then why are you complaining about your inability to vote?

I'm not, I'm complaining that people don't think I'm important because I can't vote, despite the fact I'm a tax payer. I'm not saying I don't want to become a US citizen either, just that I'm not decided on it yet. I have 2 years to think about. In the meantime I continue to pay as much taxes as anyone else.

Even as a non-voter, I don't see why you can't send a letter to your Congressman

and express your concerns.

and as soon as that congressman/woman figures out he can't vote, it gets circular filed.

And how would they find out? Even if there's no record of you voting, it doesn't mean you're ineligible to vote.

Well, misrepresenting yourself as a US citizen is a deportable defense! Right now I'm not even sure if I can techically say I have a congressman, as I'm not allowed to participate in their election.

that's provided he stated such. and as he already replied about what could happen if he misrepresented himself, it's a lost cause imo.

Misrepresenting yourself as a US citizen is a bit of a stretch, isn't it?

It's not illegal to write a letter to your Senator or Representative, and no-one asks

you to enclose a copy of your passport when you do.

In fact, I know several aliens who had their immigration cases expedited by

their Congressmen.

####### Charles - do you start off all your letters by stating your immigration status?

Tell me what that does for ya? I totally understand the symbolism of it, but it really does "nothing" at all. Except maybe make "you feel better". You truly have the wrong impression of me,Im really quite a nice guy.

You mean you don't? I always sign my letters with my Alien Registration Number (in lieu of name, rank and serial number). Signatures a bit of a ####### - but once you get used to it... ;)

I wasn't being entirely serious.

In fact, I know several aliens who had their immigration cases expedited by

Ah but in those cases the Congressman was doing that as a benefit to the US citizen spouse, who is a voter!
