Or as road bridges fall apart with apparently no money to pay for them.

I was going to mention that. In my mind Katrina and this bridge collapse are just the opening salvos in the ###### storm that's going to be caused by the general neglect of public services in this country. The infrastructure is clearly crumbling.

Look what happened to the British rail network in 2000.

Yep, I wonder if this latest event will actually lead to anything rather than finger pointing though. That is basically all that seems to have happened so far.

I never have understood how people get so pi$$ed off at the government for not taking care of them. Do you hate your mom for telling you to get out and get a job?

Go ask your neighbor to fork up some healthcare, after all thats whos gonna be payin for it!

Lets be specific here. Its about being pi$$ed off that the govt protects the financial interests of health insurance providers while making it impossible for people to get the same prescription drugs at a fraction of the cost.

In anything else this sort of consumer choice (voting with their wallets) would be fair play - after all the consumer only wants to pay the lowest price for the same thing. Noone wants to be ripped off.

Who benefits from me paying $100 for something I could get elsewhere for $10 - sure isn't me.

Why are you paying $100 if you know where to get it for $10?

Because not so long ago the insurance companies lobbied the US Government to restrict the import of prescription drugs from Canada.

The logical thing then is for you to move to Canada, problem solved.

I'm sure in your mind that must make some kind of sense - to everyone else its just... well... plain dumb isn't it...

You do realise me using myself as an example that I was illustrating that it isn't 'just me' who is affected by this issue.

I never have understood how people get so pi$ed off at the government for not taking care of them.

Do you think it right that the government allow bridges to collapse killing people because of neglect and lack of funds? Or do you just think those people deserved to die and its not up to the government (state or federal) to keep the roads safe?

Like it or not the government does take care of us. They do so by providing things like roads, police, coastguards, the military. It is their job to do so and why we pay taxes. If we take your attitude to extremes then we might as well just live in anarchy. Still it would cut taxes right?

Oh my lord, the government "allowed" the bridge to fall? Do I think people deserved to die? #######! First of all, I paid for the road, not the government.

If we pay them tax money to maintain the existing infrastructure and they choose to spent that revenue on something else - then yes, they 'allowed' it to deteriorate and collapse out of neglect.

A basic understanding of English comprehension is required to understand what I said. I'm not bothering any more. Later. ;)

Gotta love the blame game!
