I-751 With 48 Month Extension- Now Expired Past Extension Date

Hello All,

I am hoping to receive some insight on our current situation..

My husbands Conditional Permanent Residency Card  was set to expire on 10/07/2021. We applied for Removal of Conditions (Form I-751) on 08/19/2021. We received the 48month Extension letter on 03/08/2023. But now my husbands permanent residency card is expired past the 48 month extension date. We have not heard anything since the extension letter on 03/08/2023. The current status of our case only states that it has been received.

Has anyone experienced this? Should we be concerned?

Thank you for your time and I look forward to your insight.

With a 48 months extension the new expiration date is 10/07/2025 so still not expired. Cases just take that long these days, unfortunately.

If your husband wants to be a citizen, he should apply as soon as he's eligible, which he should be by now under the 3 year rule. You don't have to wait until the I-751 is completed to do that and most people have a shorter wait for naturalization, and both cases adjudicated together (combo interview).

The 48 month extension letter extends the EXPIRATION DATE PRINTED ON THE CARD by 48 months.

In summary, it took 13 months for approval of the CR-1.  It took 44 months for approval of the I-751.  It took 4 months for approval of the N-400.   It took 172 days from N-400 application to Oath Ceremony.   It took 6 weeks for Passport, then 7 additional weeks for return of wife's Naturalization Certificate..
