What should my bank statement and savings look like?

Greetings and I wish the reader well.

I am from India and my partner and I are yet to apply for a K1 visa after we're engaged in a few months.

I wanted to understand if there is a minimum requirement for me as far as my savings are concerned. And if so, what is a good amount to have?

This is in regard to most online sources stating that the officers check if the Indian applicant is financially stable to be able to return to the country. Any advice on this matter will be greatly appreciated.

The visa applicant's financial information is not reviewed when applying for a K1.  The USC petitioner will need to prepare the I-134

I believe you are confusing the requirements for an immigrant visa (K1) and a tourist visa (B1/B2). They are completely separate.

For the K1 visa, the petitioner (US citizen) must demonstrate that they are able to financially support their fiance. The income and asset requirements are outlined here: https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/us-visas/immigrate/family-immigration/nonimmigrant-visa-for-a-fiance-k-1.html#8

For the tourist visa (B1/B2), the applicant (Indian citizen) must demonstrate strong ties to their home country and reasons to return after their short visit to the US. Applicants with significant income and assets in their home country are usually considered to fall into this category.

Can you provide a source?

This is incorrect. It’s the petitioner who needs to show they can sponsor an immigrant financially. The beneficiary can be unemployed for their whole life and US Immigration wouldn’t care.

I apologise. I may have confused a B1/B2 requirement with a K1. I initially had my chartered accountant say I should have a minimum of 10 lakhs saved in my bank for the K1 process to go smoothly and I went into a rabbit hole ever since. I'm grateful for your feedback in this matter.

I'd like to extend my gratitude to everyone who took the time to respond. You all have eased my mind a lot.

May want to avoid using accountant as source of US immigration info.

Your girlfriend will want to join VJ, and read and research the visa process thoroughly.   There can be challenges that are unique to India.

Speak for yourself, i am an accountant and provide immigration info on almost a daily basis.

Uh, as evidenced by the incorrect advice OP got from his accountant.....lol

Provide just means to dispense.  Doesn't mean it is factually correct.
