i never got one in the mail . i found out i was approved by looking on the cis website and by calling the office . do i need it when filling for AOS ?

If he never received one in the first place would he still have to pay $340?

We never received one, either. We documented all our attempts at trying to obtain it, and kept all correspondence we received regarding it. When I filed the I-485 I noted it in the cover letter and enclosed the documentation. I also included a printout of the online approval. No way was I paying extra for their incompetence.

I think it'll be important for you to post and let everyone know if and when you are approved without having to send in a copy of your NOA2.

No RFE's. I was transferred directly to California and am now going through name check. I'll let you know the outcome.

In my case the missing NOA is very well documented. USCIS acknowledges it in writing. I would imagine it would be extremely hard to prove otherwise without documentation... therefore incurring an RFE.
