Hey Everyone,

I hope you're all doing well...

Does anyone have a good estimate on the processing times for the IR1, going through DCF in London?

We've been married for over 12 years and have been living in the UK for the majority of that time, so don't expect any complications at all.

We successfully processed an IR1 through DCF in London, about 8 years ago...

Much appreciated...

3 or 4 months?

DCF has changed a bit since then, presumably you qualify.

The biggest change is you need a reason why, short notice job relocation is the usual one.

Oh really?

So DCF is not just a filing option like it was when we filed all those years ago - interesting.

If it's just a normal IR1 application, is that done through America, now? If so, how long on average does that take?

I understand that the centre that our application is processed is a factor, but what's a rough timeframe; we're in no rush.

ou mention changes; what significant changes should I know about DCF since our previous file?

As @Boiler said, you must have exceptional circumstances, and it is completely at the discretion of the consulate since the foreign USCIS offices have closed.

In summary, it took 13 months for approval of the CR-1.  It took 44 months for approval of the I-751.  It took 4 months for approval of the N-400.   It took 172 days from N-400 application to Oath Ceremony.   It took 6 weeks for Passport, then 7 additional weeks for return of wife's Naturalization Certificate..

Do NOT file an I-130 with USCIS untul you have exhausted DCF possibility.  Once an I-130 has been filed with USCIS, the consulate is not authorized to process a DCF case.

18 months or so would be a reasonable guess.

Thanks for the info @Crazy Cat & @Boiler

This is not a good development!

DCF was just an option back when we filed last time; it was so easy and took hardly any time at all. They required no exceptional circumstances or anything...

Well, I'll look into DCF a bit more and try and use that route.

18 months must be painful for people trying to get there in a hurry....

2 years is now common for a normal spousal visa.   Be glad you won't have to deal with Removal of Conditions....

It all changed in 2019. USCIS decided to start phasing out their field offices abroad so that "traditional" DCF of applying via the foreign field office is gone. Now you just contact the embassy directly (bypassing USCIS) and have exceptional circumstances which justify the embassy taking your case.
