I am sure there are people with big age differences that have made it through Cairo. Just it could cause a red flag for them but you just need to be sure that you have lots of evidence to support your relationship. I wish you all the best on your journey.

Medo and I have a large age diffrence. And were still waiting AP. I just dont know what all the fuss is about AGE. Or why it brings up a red flag. But im sure that is the reason were still in AP after 6 mo.

The fuss is because culturally speaking Egyptians and other MENA ppl don't normally marry women 10+ yrs older than themselves. You wouldn't find an Egyptian marrying another Egyptian with that large of an age gap (the woman being older). Just from one Egyptian's perspective....when my husband hears of marriages that are 15-20+ yr age differences he finds it (for lack of a better word) disgusting. He can't wrap his head around a man wanting to marry a woman old enough to be his mother. The COs know the cultural norms of the countries they work in, they know that this kind of marriage is not "normal" in Egypt. That is why they scrutinize these types of relationships.

moody's got it. But, of course, marriages with age gaps do get approved. Nothing's an automatic rejection, and there's no evidence that an age gap is more of a problem than not sharing a common language or knowing each other for a short period of time.

Yeah. The funny thing is even though it's been discussed to death there's still this outrage over the COs scrutinizing and wanting further investigations on these types of marriages. Hell even in the US these types of marriages are not the "norm". Ppl will give you grief over 5 yrs what about 20+?

I had a conversation with my 'liberal" fiancé about this and I was shocked at his answer! He seems incapable of wrapping his brain around the big age difference of some couples. Hmm I guess he wasn't as liberal as I thought. He really had nothing bad to say about the women, but he just found it odd. So I guess my next question is, is it just age or what about when children are involved? Is a divorced woman with kids say like an older woman?

No.

My SIL is divorced and she's Egyptian. This is not a terribly unusual thing. Being divorced with children is not the same as being as old as someone's mama. Could you imagine being married to someone your dad's age?

Culturally speaking, brides are expected to be younger, able to bear children, same religion, unmarried virgins, and most families prefer someone with the same background. That being said, just because the family wants a bride like this doenst mean the man getting married does. However the CO's views are taken from what is culturally acceptable.

I'm divorced and I had to go through a lot explaining to his family why and what happened before they accepted me and gave us the blessing to get engaged.

No! Maybe this is a pea-brained thing to say, but maybe it has something to do with how old your parents are. My best friend (who is my age) has a boyfriend who is 45, about the age of my dad, which kind of freaks me out. But her dad is pushing 80, so maybe that's why she sees it differently. *shrug*

my fiance said almost everyone waiting for their k-3 visa interview at the time of his interview (two times he was there) were huge age differences. yes, this was in morocco, but i suspect it is similar in egypt.
