hi ya

with some of the things to get her name on you need a social security number..

lease you can do it as soon as she arrives..when we did ours i think they charged like 30 dollars for it to be rewritten with my name on it ..

state id's depends on your state..i know when i went for mine they needed some kind of legal presence in the state..as i had not done my AOS at the time they wouldnt accept my passport with the I-94 or my social security card..so i got my id after i received my greencard...

banks .. needs social security number and some other kind of id ..also take your marriage certificate to show change of name ...(just thought of that )

i would ring the dmv to see what is needed for adding your wife to the title of the car...

you can also add her to your work medical insurance and the life insurance ...also while i think of it dont forget to add her to the mail box so when you do receive things in her name the postman will know she is living with you now..i have no idea how much mail was sent back.. i do know of 3 wedding parcels that didnt make it from overseas..

good luck with it all

The simple answer to this is:No.

State IDs usually require at least one of the following: SSN and EAD/Green Card. As a K-3 your wife is not employment authorized, so cannot get a SSN when she enters, she will have to apply for an EAD before she can get an SSN, which usually takes around 90 days to process.

can she be added ASAP to my bank accounts, lease of our apartment rent, car titles and stuff like that?? how is that possible???

Depends on the bank, some banks require a SSN to add someone to an account, others may be more forgiving. Not sure why you would want to add her to a car title, insurance I can understand, apartment lease is up to your landlord.

Rin came on a K-3 visa in April. Cannot get a SSN until you have applied for AOS. Cannot get a state ID (at least in TN) without a green card. Also, they would not issue her a TN driver's license, but she could get a "certificate for driving". Not sure what the difference is as she hasn't gone to take the test yet. So she does not have any other ID besides her passport and Thai ID card.

I had no problem adding her to my bank account and insurance (just showed passport and visa page).

Good luck!

Not true. You can apply for an EAD before you apply for AOS, and get a SSN based on that.

I stand corrected, EAD gets you the right to get a SSN, not applying for AOS. But with the new AOS fees including EAD, it is most probable that EAD and AOS would be filed at the same time, but it is not necessarily true in all circumstances.

Good luck!

The difference is that the certificate of driving cannot be used as a form of ID (for example, to get on a domestic flight) whereas a driver's license can.
