You would probably also need to have a box for "SO entered timeline" for those that both people have VJ accounts (isn't only one person supposed to fill in timeline in those cases?)

To do this all you have to do is enter your SO's email address (the one that they used for the timeline) into your own timeline email address box. I've done that with mine. My hubby wrote our timeline and I just linked it to mine through his email address.

*gets the feeling she wrote "email address" far too many times in that post*

I think it would be nice to be able to skip several pages ahead at a time when viewing timelines. For example, I was trying to find all of the people who had their greencard approved around the same time as us, so I could see who would be applying to remove conditions at a similar time as us. But when I sort by decision date, I can only move forward 2 pages at a time, and it would take forever to get all the way back to June of 2006 by moving forward only 2 pages at at time. I'd like to be able to skip to whatever page in order to move through the entries more quickly.

Or maybe there already is a better way to do this that I haven't figured out.

ETA: I went back to read the whole thread and this is related to what rebeccajo already brought up regarding AOS filters.

A lot of people put their timeline in their signature but not in the VJ timelines. I think it would be nice to have a link to edit your timeline directly in your "controls" to make it easier to access.

There are many times when people ask how they do it... Maybe there should be some sort of automatic PM sent to every new comer with the basics and where to go to do what...

As said in a previous post it would make more sense to have the date the package was received in the USCIS center, because I've seen people who had theirs received a day after they sent it and other 10 days after.

For AOS timeline:

It would be interesting to to have the number of days between the time when the package arrived and the approval date. I may be lazy but I don't really feel like calculating that for every person.

Just make it like the visa timelines, and a little mention if waiting on FBI namecheck.

I was just looking through all of the timelines at the CSC for China. I see many , many, many timelines that have not been updated in a very long while. And the Members have not visited VJ in just as long.

How does keeping outdated, NOT-Updated, Forgotten Timelines affect the VJ Database?

I think people like this should be automatically disabled after a certain period of time. The abandoned timelines corrupt the integrity of the data.

I also like Caladan's idea, since I was like Tracy and Lisa and didn't get to file for ages after joining VJ.

But where do you make that cut off? Or how do you know they're abandoned and not just waiting? If incomplete timelines are not figured into data, this is a moot point.

this is the way the world ends

this is the way the world ends

not with a bang but a whimper

It does not affect it. We ignore partial entries and only calculate dates when both the start and end date in the calculation are present. Partial entries do not affect the statistics either.

I was messing with this yesterday. It doesn't look like there are any filters for AOS. Am I missing them or are they just not there?

You can sort by any of the columns :).

Yes, but sorting is only so useful if you are looking for a certain date and can only move a couple pages at a time, right? Is there some more efficient way to find records around a certain date?

I think we're basically wondering if there can be a 'Timeline Search' for AOS like there is for the visas.

I am sending an email to all VJ members to remind them to update or add their timeline :). Hopefully this helps!

That is not what I am saying. I am saying this:

Give the NOA1 to NOA calculations for example. If a person enters an NOA1 and not an NOA2 then their timeline does not go into calculating stats on the time it takes to go from NOA1 to NOA2. Some people worried that if they forgot to add an NOA2 that the system would keep counting the days forever and skew the results. This is not the case.

:P

We take what we can get from a person's timeline. If they filled out only portions we use the data that we can as long as all the needed info is there. Partial timelines are not an issue :). The more data the better but the system is smart enough to allow partial timelines.
