TYPO/ERROR EXTENSION LETTER HELP!

Hello everyone!!

I received my extension letter last month. Unfortunately, it seems like my lawyer made a mistake. He put my last name both on the middle and last name section of the application. So basically, my last name is being listed twice.

I tried to get it corrected by calling, doing the e request but they basically just said it is up to the officer to make a decision.

I am planning a trip to Brazil in the next few months and I am scared this will give me issues. According to my lawyer I should be fine because everything else matches, alien #, first name, DOB etc...

But I did want to hear from you guys... has anyone experienced something similar?

Thank you!

I have only seen minor typos and they were not an issue.

Sorry to hear about the typos. Let it be a lesson for everybody reading... Don't blindly trust the lawyers. Always check everything and correct mistakes before it gets sent to USCIS.

I cannot say for certain you'll be fine travelling, but it seems like there's some chance you're going to be OK. The biggest hurdle is the airline.

Also demand your lawyer to send a letter to USCIS asking for corrections. Request a copy and proof of such letter. Your lawyer should be doing everything to make up for their mistake.

Thank you!! I should’ve asked him to double check the application one more time; but when you’re literally paying thousands of dollars for him to fill out a paper you’d expect he’d get it done right 😭 I am so upset.

i asked him about writing a letter to the service center and he basically brushed it off saying I’ll be fine and to not worry about it. But either way I’ll get it done myself.

thanks again

You won't be "fine". You may get a GC with wrong name on it.

Put some pressure on him, you're the client and he's working for you. Get a copy of everything submitted for your records.

If he doesn't help, consider firing this incompetent person. What is he going to do if you get RFE or incorrect document? Brush it off?

Are you sure he's a lawyer?

That’s what I’m also really scared of.

I will!! He was so good in the beginning I didn’t think it would turn into this. And he is an actual lawyer I looked for references etc before hiring him.

thank you!

I agree with @OldUser.  ALWAYS check and double check your paperwork.  The lawyers are never as negatively impacted as the beneficiary when it comes to a screw up so they have a pretty nonchalant attitude about it, meanwhile it's your whole life.

You've paid the lawyer a fee to file on your behalf.  They screwed up.  They need to get it fixed and NOT for more money.
