I recently got married October 5 and the only documentation that I am lacking is some form of documentation that can prove that my wife and I share finances. So I’m currently in Nigeria and they are telling me that I am unable to set up a joint account due to me not having a BVN number, is there any other supporting documents that I can use with the I-130 to prove that we share something? Also, I am a disabled veteran and I receive Va benefits, so I do not file taxes if that helps any thanks everyone.

Joint finances are not a requirement, it’s merely suggested and most couples who apply for CR1 do not have this type of proof.

You can add her her as an authorized user on your American credit cards if you really want to submit something related to this.

Proof of time spent together in person is the best evidence to present so I would focus on that.

Is it mandatory that my wife and I share finances? I ask because I was told that I had to either show joint ownership such as a bank account or something to that extent. I’ve been trying to open a joint account in Nigeria but they told me that I have to have a bvn number I’m having a difficult time trying to get it. If I make the 125% poverty rate is that enough?

I don’t have any credit cards in the US to add her to. I even tried to add her to my bank account, but they told me that since she was not physically there that they could not add her to my account. And I don’t file taxes, but I do receive VA benefits and before I leave Nigeria, I was trying to ensure that I did not have to have it, so I was just submit a supporting documentation along with the nearest certificate and the other witnesses for the affidavit, etc..

Submit what you have. As I mentioned time spent in person is best evidence.

With any of the other forms besides the I-130 that I need to bring her over do I have to have any type of joint finances with my wife?

For filing for your wife, you only need to submit the I130 to get the ball rolling which requires you to also submit a copy of the marriage certificate.  When the I130 is approved, it moves to what we call the NVC stage (NVC stands for National Visa Center) which is part of the Dept. of State and routes the I130 petition to the proper consulate.  At the NVC stage you need to provide and upload the I864 form to show you can adequately sponsor your spouse, and also any other documents that help to show the ongoing relationship as this will be anywhere from 10-14 months from when you submit the I130.

I hope that helps, but you do not need the financial information now.

Good Luck!

For a spouse visa case, the I-130a is also needed.  It seems the OP is relying on asking questions only.  Becoming an A-STudent of the forms and their separate instructions is going to be critical to his success.  Without that, he will not know what he doesn't know, so will not know what to ask.  This guide is also critical to study and understand, for an overview of the entire process, step by step.

Hello all!  Do I still use an I-130 as the first step  file for my wife if I’m a disabled veteran and receive benefits and if so can some one show me an example?

Yes, the I130 and I130A.  Please see the post above from @pushbrk that links the step-by-step guide.

Good Luck!
