Well, I received my Packet 3 about 2 weeks ago, very exciting. Only the problem is, my fiance still doesn't have a job, so I can't mail in the DS-230 Part 1 form without filling in his occupation, and I don't want to put in "unemployed". He was supposed to have a job by now, and is working on it but.. How long do they let you wait after they've mailed it out to you, or should I just write "unemployed" in the occupation section? He'll have a job by the time I need to fill out the affidavit of support.

Anyway, just confused, and appreciative of any help I might get.

As soon as you have everything ready you can send back the documents they are requesting. Sounds like you may need to have a co-sponsor on "standby" with a completed & notarized I-134. That way, when the Interview comes around, you'll be ready either way. I thought the amount of time before the Consulate considers your petition abandoned was 90 days. I seem to remember having seen it on one of Fernanda's docs from the Consulate. They state when the documents should be received at the Consulate. Another VJer will have that answer.

As far as I know, (and th example forms on this website will concur), since you are applying for a K-1 visa, there is no where on this form that you have to put your fiance's occupation. It asks for your SPOUSE'S occupation, but since your American petitioner is not your spouse yet, that whole section will just have 'N/A'. I just filled out the DS230 as well and this is what we put.

My Timeline

K-1 Process:

3/30/07 - NOA 1

6/25/07 - NOA 2

8/30/07 - Interview

9/13/07 - US arrival date

AOS Process:

10/5/07 - Married

10/19/07 - AOS application sent (I-485, I-131, I-765)

3/7/08 - Interview - APPROVED

3/17/08 - Greencard arrives

Removal of Conditions:

01/12/10 - Removal of Conditions package sent

01/19/10 - NOA 1

02/11/10 - Biometrics

03/16/10 - Approved
