Hello,

I received this letter from NVC, I applied for F4 category visa, I-130 immigration on 2/2023, approved on 10/2023, and received this letter afterwards, what does it mean? thanks in advance

Due to the numerical limitations on immigrant visa issuance prescribed by law, this petition is not eligible for further processing at this time. The National Visa Center (NVC) will retain the petition until an immigrant visa becomes available. The NVC will notify the petitioner, principal applicant, or attorney of record when this petition is eligible for further processing. The principal applicant should not make any firm plans such as disposing of property, giving up jobs, or making travel arrangements at this time.

Your class of visa will not have a number available to you for >15 years, depending on what country you’re from.   There is nothing you need to do until then.

That was quick, so they approved the I 130, basically they recognise the sibling relationship so now you are just waiting.

Do you know how long usual last?

As above, 15+ years, depending on your country. Just keep an eye on the Visa Bulletin from time to time to see when your Priority Date may become current.

It is 15 years plus for those who filed 15 plus years ago.

Assuming nothing changes as far as visa numbers are concerned it will be a lot longer for someone who files now.

I would assume so too, but no way of guessing how long it will take really, particularly without knowing which country the OP is from.

I wouldn't be surprised if the whole category is scrapped at some point, I can't think of any other country in the world that allows adult siblings to be sponsored for permanent residency (or adult children for that matter) and the wait is just crazy. Anybody applying now for a family based sponsorship with a long wait would be best off applying to get in the queue, and then focusing on trying to make themselves eligible for another route i.e. employment based green card in the interim if at all possible.

With a quick approved like this, your sibling's child can be age out by the time of the interview.

For many people it is getting close to being a retirement visa.

I have seen people try and calculate it, we do know how many are waiting and 65,000 are allocated a year, but we do not know how many dependents, how many will die, change their minds or move to the US in a different way.

There are factors like Humanitarian Reinstatement. That used to be pretty rare, my impression is that it is much more common now.

I used to multiply current wait time by 50% now I double, but there is no way anyone can really know.

There has been talk of doing away with F3, F4 and DV for as long as I can remember, I seriously doubt there will be any change in the foreseeable future.
